I was at a WalMart supercenter yesterday and accidentally found the .1% differin gel with a "NOW AVAILABLE WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION" tag on it. To my delight it is also at my neighborhood market.
So I guess this is available over the counter now? Am I the only one who didn't know this? LOL. I know it is used more often for acne, but I'm thinking about trying it for general retinol maintenance. It's only like $12. |

Yes, it's been available without a prescription for a little under a year....I think.
Differin is my Retnoid of choice. I've tried Obagi Retin A (at all 3 strengths), generic tretinion cream (all 3 strengths), Retin A micro (at all 3 strengths) and Renova. Differin is my favorite because I can use it every night and it doesn't cause redness, burning or peeling, plus it doesn't overly dry my skin and it helps keep my acne under control. Who could ask for more?!
I'm not sure how "strong" it is since it's not exactly like a true tretinion cream, but it've heard the .1% is similar to the .025 Retin A (results-wise). You can also get a .3% Differin cream, but that still requires a prescription.
Overall, I highly recommend trying Differin, especially if you've struggled with other Retin A products being too harsh. |

I bought a tube of it this morning and I'm going to start using it. It seems way too cheap, but I'm giving it a shot! |

This has been sitting in my Amazon cart all week! I'm nervous to try this since I read on a few sites that Diffirin gel is marketed towards those with acne and there aren't studies that shows it works well for those looking to fight the signs of aging (true?). Does anyone without acne have experience using Differin? I'm hoping it could be a good introductory retinoid as it's supposedly gentler than Retin-A. |

I have oily skin and blackheads myself. It's helping with that, but it also seems like it might be helping with the edges of my crow's feet.
That might just be my imagination or wishful thinking, though.... |

I use differin gel 0.1% and I also recommend it as a retin a alternative. It is very gentle and I feel it has a great effect on the skin alround from helping acne and with aging. I have been using precription strength retinond type products for 12 + years and my best results were after switchinbg to differin a few years ago. I am 40 this year and have no wrinkles or even much in the way of fine lines so I think it really helps with antiaging. |

Differin is OTC is the US. Unfortunately RX only in Canada.
Lots of feedback on the skin care section of Makeupalley. Most are having good results. |

I figured I would go ahead and update this thread because I realized I'd been using the differin for about 6 months.
I like it just fine still, but I'm fairly certain my results have peaked. I layer so many other things on top of it (always forgetting to stagger!) so I can't be sure if the improvement was due to the differin or something else I starting using.
But as far as I can tell it has had an improvement on my skin tone and texture, as well as my blackheads to a lesser extent. I can't believe it's cheap, effective, and easy to get! Not as dramatic results as other retinoids, of course, but absolutely no irritating or side effects to speak of. It gets my stamp of approval....whatever that's worth. |

I forgot to mention it is helping with my otherwise epic oil production, but that might just be my skin drying out as I age too. |

I started using Differin in October. I started off slow then worked up to every night. I am seeing good results with irritation. Also I think my skin tone is more even; not as red, blotchy.
This is a winner in my books. I don't think our results peak at four months but it is a much slower journey than Retin-A (or more potent RX retinoids)
Oh, my forehead is very oily and I wish this helped with that. |
