As titled. I don't know what happened recently but my nose is extremly weird. It used to be greasy like just a film on my nose but it won't come out in beads. I'm not sure if those're sweat or oil but anyways...
It seems to happen after I started using the Keys ss and the night cream with Retinl Palmitate in it. I'm not sure if they're related or not but I can swear this happened after I included those 2 products.
So I stopped using the Keys in the morning to see if those gross beads of oil or sweat would stop but it's still the same!!! Does anyone know what's wrong? TIA |

My physician told me that this kind of reaction is due to the product clogging the pores. I've had this when starting new creams and eventually had to discontinue those particular creams because it never stopped. |

It is extremely likely that this product is clogging your pores. The little beads of "fluid" that you are seeing coming out of your pores is skin sebum. Sebum is the natural oils your body produces to keep your skin moist and hydrated. It comes up through the pores and spreads lightly over the skin....unless, the pores are clogged. Then it builds up, and if possible, breaks through whatever is clogging the pore. Thus, you can see rather large beads of it pooling up.
There is nothing wrong with skin sebum, as a matter of fact, your skin requires these fatty acids, wax esters, squalene, cholesterol, and other minor components. It's part of the bioligical process of the skin. But, using most of todays creams and lotions truly disrupt this process making your skin dryer, and worse off than when you started.
You really should find and use products that use raw materials as identical to your skin's own natural oils as possible. Then, you won't have this sort of problem.

Thanks calorblind, PGirl, and NOTCh for replying.
But those beads only appeared on my nose and no where else. And I don't seem to see any clogs or bumps or pimples on my nose or elsewhere on my face?....hhm... So should I stop using whatever I've been using for awhile and see if the beads will stop? |

It only happens on my nose too and it doesn't look like you have clogged pores. Still, that's what it is.
Yes, I suggest you stop whatever you've added. |

the nose is usually oiler than in other areas, it's a common ground for clogged pores, blackheads, etc |

The likelihood is your current regime is a little too aggressive, and it is causing your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum.
My advice would be to dial back on your current routine, especially around the nose area. Don’t exfoliate, this will just encourage more oil production. Instead just cleanse as you normally would, and moisturise. If you already use a toner (Alchohol free!) you can see if keeping it in the regime helps, otherwise remove that too (as it will further dry the skin, and further promote oil production).
Give your skin a couple of weeks to recover and see if the sebum production reduces. You can use a clean tissue to lightly dab your nose to remove excess oil.
Try to avoid makeup, or at least go for lighter powder based ones like Bare Minerals.
You could also try a serum, it may sound counter productive but a light serum will hydrate your nose area prior to moisturising and may reduce oil production. Omorvicza make an excellent, light serum called ‘instant perfection’ which you can use under your moisturiser. Try to use a lighter moisturise rather than something too heavy.
Some things to bear in mind:
- Less is more; the more you to do your nose, the more you’re going to promote sebum production
- exfoliating needs to be minimised, every week to ten days is plenty
- it will take time for your skin to settle, be patient
- Avoid nose strips, extractions and masks
Once your skin has settled down, and oil production begins to lessen, you can gradually reintroduce more product. Go one at a time, and see if you can work out what product, or combination of products is causing this. It may just be a case of ‘too much’.
Once your skin has settled, I would suggest you try a mask. I would recommend Omorvicza’s Deep Cleansing Mask, or their Ultramoor Mud Mask. Both are excellent products, and unlike many mud masks they won’t dry your skin.
I hope this helps, I’ve suffered from a similar problem myself and it can be very frustrating. |
