I've been using Bodybleach by Rare Extracts which works better than a lot of other products I've used in the past. |

Ouch! Spending a lot of time in places where there is lots of smoke! That definitely will hurt skin (and lungs). Use an antioxidant (internally and externally) to help your body neutralize the free radicals that form when you are exposed to these irritants. Oxidation occurs when your skin is exposed to smoke - The result is premature aging due to breakdown of your collagen layer. Vtiamins C, E, and coQ10 have been shown to be effective antioxidants. C has the added plus of brightening the skin and helping to fade off hyperpigmentation. I don't it will reduce your melanin production by half but at least it would protect your skin from damage that will be caused by the smoke (as well as UV light and pollution, stress, etc.) I use C+ Firming Serum from CellularSkinRx.com. But there are many good C products out there. Just make sure you find a stable, l-ascorbic acid, low ph product packaged in an amber glass bottle or an airless pump bottle. |

I'm with Betterat40 on the vit C serum front. It would be good for your skin, especially given the smoky environment. It's the right thing to do for your skin but it's not going to give you 50% lighter skin.
I'm not sure about what products would reduce your melanin by 50%. Frankly, this should be doable if at some earlier stage in your life your skin was 50% lighter and it has darkened due to sun exposure. If you are wanting to go 50% lighter than the skin color you were born with then I don't think there is any non-harsh product that would do that for you. Just my 2 cents.

The best way to keep your skin and lips soft is to exfoliate and then moisturise. You might also try dry body brushing as well.
I do every so often drink warm water with lemon juice. I have read somewhere that it is good for the skin. I don't think putting lemon juice on the skin would achieve much though (apart from drying it out). It needs to be a stable and absorbable form of vitamin C. Betterat40 is the Vit C pro around here, I'm sure she'll be able to explain this better.

Make sure that you are using sunscreen everyday to prevent further darkening. Otherwise you will be fighting a losing battle and throwing money down the drain.

Yes, you do need sunscreen even if you are working indoors. In your lifetime, you actually get more sun exposure from everyday things like going to and from your car and driving than you do from occasional trips to the beach and yard work.
Once a day application should be sufficiant. I personally use spf 30, but I am very fair. You might find that spf 15 works well for you. I use Shiseido, but any brand that has adequate uva/uva protection and works well with your skin will do.

I alternate between SPF15 and SPF30 nowadays (though I do have some SPF50 in my stash as well and I think even SPF100 ). I don't spend much time in the sun on a typical day so I only apply once in the morning. If I decide to have an outdoor lunch then I will (most times) dab on some more (I burn easily). If you do get out in the sun much then you would need to reapply. |

Well, while I do have the SPF50 and 100 (or thereabouts) I have only used them once or twice. This is mainly because such high protection is not necessary on a normal day. I do believe that skin does need SOME sun! The SPF30 that I am using is the Skinceuticals Ultimate UV Defense SPF30. The SPF50+ is made by Shiseido and is called Anessa Neo. I'm actually not sure what the SPF is of my other sunblock. It says SPF50+ meaning it's over SPF 50. It's called Sun Proguard UV 112 - so I think the 112 is the SPF (at least that's what I've been told but I'm not sure if that's right). This feels like deja vu! I remember making the same mistake on here before and then correct myself The UV 112 always confuses me! Anyways, that particular one is by Kanebo. Both the Kanebo and Anessa sunblocks have only been released to asian markets. |

I've never tried them nor have I read anything about them. My personal preference would be stay away from ingesting anything that says it will whiten my skin. But that's just my preference.

Hi,bootsector,
Sorry for no reply for so long...I just read the entire thread....let me know what you want to know about C serum and I'll be happy to help. I have used C in conjunction with Retin-A to get rid of hyperpigmentation that I had along my jawline. I had tried hydroquinone and Retin-A and other drugtore lightening products but none worked. The C did the trick though. In addition, it has made my skin have a brightness and a firm, clear look that it did not have before. I highly recommend adding a C serum to any skin regimen. C protects your skin from free radial damage caused by your skin's exposure to UV light, pollution and cigarette smoke. It is also necessary for collagen synthesis and helps to repair your skin's collagen layer. There are many good C products on the market. Here's what to look for in a good product: Stable l-ascorbic acid preferably in a glycol solution, concentration at least 10%. There are other forms of C (C-esters, MAG, magnesium ascorbyl phospate, etc.) These are not as effective as l-ascorbic acid because they must first be converted into l-ascorbic acid for your skin to absorb them. This conversion process can really reduce the effectiveness of these C forms. I use C+Firming Serum from CellularSkinRx.com. It's an online company but I think LoopyLori and Guapagirl have had orders delivered to the UK.
Hope this helps and good luck! |

Hi there! I've also been trying to whiten my underarm. I ve tried Godiva underarm deodorant with licorice but I didn't really notice much change. Then I tried this local product that we have called maxipeel. Its a hydroquinone/tretinoin combination which is really for the face--just wanted to see if that would work. Well bad idea. A few days after applying, it started to peel and really hurt (like there were sores). So stopped that.
What i've been trying recently that seems to be working is this cream called skinwhite. Its a whitening underarm night cream. I threw away the box so am not sure whats main ingredient but i really think its lightening my underarm skin.
Another thing I've notice is when i stopped shaving my armpit hair and switched to waxing, the area was less dark.
hope that helps! |

The correct term is called "lighter skin"
I doubt you can get you skin 50% lighter without causing some kind of skin damage however if you start with a shade lighter and work your way down to see how much lighter your skin can get without causing damage or trauma to your skin would be a start.
If you check out my profile and review all my post (they are all about lightening skin) you will find the product and procedure(it is quite lenghtly). |

Stop smoking Sorry, had to be said. Even if you actively try to prevent them they will keep coming back until you stop. But you could try using (gently) Dermalogica Microfoliant on them and then moisturising REALLY well. I've also read that applying lemon might help, again this will be drying and you need to really moisturise your lips.
