Does anyone have suggestions for a good lip primer? I am currently using Trish McEvoy's Flawless lip, but it isn't anything to write home about. |

Hi Stretch! I don't buy into the lip primer thing all that much - they are either too drying for me or leave me with cakey lipstick...I prefer to use a good moisturizing concealer followed by a sweep of finely milled powder. I make sure that my lip liner tends towards "dry" to help prevent bleeding, then blend and use a lip brush to apply my lipstick.. I don't believe that a lipstick with a nice finish (that doesn't dry out your lips) can last all day - at least I haven't tried one! And I haven't found the holy grail of lip primers, either..
Oh well!

I’ve actually been using LipFusion plumping lip gloss ($36USD, available only at Sephora) as my ‘primer,’ although I like Sally Hansen’s Lip Plumping Conditioner, too ($6USD at most supermarkets/drugstores). Neither of these are primers in the sense that they prevent your color from budging, like Pudoodles, I found those products to be too drying. Rather, the LipFusion and Sally Hansen stuff act more like moisturizers which really hydrate the lips and even out the texture so that your lipcolor applies more smoothly and actually stays on longer without “beading up” (do any of the rest of you have that problem – especially with those so-called ‘long wearing’ lipstick/gloss formulas? On me, they bead up into little balls of colored wax which have a tendency to accumulate in the corners of my mouth or at my lipline as the color wears off throughout the day....)
If you’re looking for a real, “true” lip primer, then my suggestion is to simply use your normal makeup concealer and apply a thin layer to your lips, smooth it out, then follow with a thin, even layer of face powder. Unless you’re prone to the aforementioned “beading” problem, this will give your lipstick a firm base with which to adhere.
HTH,
