From my understanding mineral oil clogs pores and causes breakouts. I might be wrong though, I just know it's a no-no for the face |

I know its definitely a no-no on *MY* face. That's why I have found Dermalogica to work so well for me. I bought Lancome's Hydra Intense Mask last year and it was loaded with mineral oil and broke me out and drove me bonkers I could kick myself for spending that money on something so useless. |

Mineral oil just sits on your skin it can't be absorbed by the skin. so basicly your skin can't breath. just clogs up everything.. |

There is a big debate about this in the skin care community. Most dermatologists will tell you that it is good for your skin. I don't know if it's because they are still reading textbooks from the early 80's, or if because mineral oil is inert, they feel that there is less likelihood of an adverse reaction (other than clogged pores, of course), and some skin care manufacturers will tell you it is good for your skin because it is cheap and easy for them to formulate with.
I personally would NEVER use it on my face, or allow it to be used in any of our products. I have never met a person who has had a good experience with it, and with so many wonderful & natural vegetable oils out there that are packed with vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants, I don't know why someone would want to use mineral oil. It has no nourishing properties for the skin whatsoever. It does nothing but lubricate. |

I am asking this question just because I have this tub of Vaseline in my bathroom cupboard, which I used to use on my chapped lips (it has worked for me since childhood)
Just wanted to know if its okay to use on my lips... |

Aprilha-
I use vaseline on my lips too and think it is fantastic- I gues try not to get it around the lip area, it might clog your pores there. But i have never had a problem with it. Probably wouldn't use it as face moisturiser tho. |

theoretically mineral oil should be fine because it's only derived from petroleum. Like people have said though.. it can't be absorbed and I use it a lot in massage.
What it is good for is cleansing oily skin because it clings to make up/dirt etc. mineral oil is by far one of the best natural cleansers along with lemon juice. |

I would imagine it would be fine to use on your lips. There are no follicles on your lips to become clogged, and practically every l;ip balm/treatment out there uses it. I thought you were asking about using it on your face. |

I use vaseline on my face if I'm out hiking in the mountains in cold weather. If I don't then my face ends up like king tut's mummy! Would never use it otherwise tho |
