Hi everyone!

Just wanted to ask around for personal experiences and remedies with the common PMS breakout that we get just before our period. I read that this is due to estrogen dominance during this time of the cycle with low progesterone.

I understand that 80% of women experience cyclic symptoms associated with their menses. For me, it's not major, just 1 or 2 spots during that time of the month. Other than that, I don't get anything unusual and feel completely normal throughout the month. Apparently, there are many types of PMS. And for my case, I don't get anything else like bloating, swelling, weight gain (I'm skinny as ever) and headaches, that could affect my functioning and my physique -- thank GOD!!!

I know that it sounds like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill with just 1 or 2 spots I get once in the while, but for vanity's sake (*embarrassed*), I wonder if anyone can share any effective remedies to prevent it? Perhaps some dietary changes?

Just spot treat them with sulfur or BP. If they are not cystic they should heal rather quickly.

There are various exercises on You Tube for the relief of menstrual cramps.
I believe the main purpose of these is to reduce the amount of estrogen in the body, so they might just work for spots if done just before a period is due.

Nutrition and physical activity can help regulate hormones. There aren't any magic tricks: anti inflammatory low glycaemic index. Especially plenty of long chain omega-3s (oily fish, omega eggs), fibre to sweep waste hormones out of the body (wholegrains, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruit and veggies). Be sure to get your 10,000 steps every day and follow all the usual healthy living advice.

Thanks for your suggestions, folks!!!

I haven't heard of doing exercises for menstrual cramps before. Interesting, I should try them out one of these days!

It happens to be that time of the month for me this week, been PMS-ing, and I've had the one or two spots that come and go again. I've found that generally being physically active (like walking instead of taking transport) really does help, though, not just to ward off any PMS. My stamina, mental clarity, and overall physical wellbeing throughout the day are better with just a good ol' walk.

And yup, I'm very strict with myself to be healthy on the diet part- wholegrains, lots of vegs, less meat, and all that. And so far, seems to have paid off in terms of reduced breakouts. I'm sure being disciplined and keeping to it will help in other areas of health in the long-term as well.

Hope this helps others with PMS!

I used to have horrible cramping at times with mine, but I was doing Gymnastics and Ballet at the time and found that if I was home and started getting cramps, I would do some of my exercises and in about 10-15 minutes they would stop!

Thankfully I am past all of that now but I do know that exercising really does help, even if it is the last thing you feel like doing!

I read some relevant articles on estrogen-related acne / excess estrogen / estrogen dominance.

We have to be careful about exposing ourselves to xenoestrogens, and try to remove excess estrogens in our body that cause acne!

Hope they help anyone facing the same!

I'm 41 & got a small spot on my chin this month, nothing too serious. I had hellacious periods in my early 30s but they have gotten a lot more manageable since I added saturated fats (ie butter & coconut oil) to my diet & started using progesterone. I now have few or no PMS symptoms.

I thought excess testosterone causes acne, not excess estrogen...

For me I apply retin a 0.1% to the bump. Usually the next day or two its dried up and gone. Of course proper diet and hydration should be considered.

can i ask if anyone uses menstrual cups before and can share the experience? i just read up on some bloggers reviews on menstrual cups and wonder if i should start using it too.

but i heard that using menstrual cups may increase menstrual cramps is that true?

i am gonna buy a box to try. cross fingers.
didn't wanna take birth control pill as my skin does not react well to it.
