Hello there ,
Can anyone recomend a hypoallergenic eye shadow base/primer?
I saw Jane Iredale has got a Lid Primer, but it looks kind of like a creamy concealer??? Has anyone tried it perhaps?
I am looking for something to help set and hold the eyeshadow better and something to even out the darkness on my eyelids.
I would appreciate your recomendations!

I have tried a lot of primers but the one that works the best in my opinion is Urban Decay's Eye Shadow Primer Potion. You can get it at Sephora or Ulta. This is the best. |

I 2nd that emotion! Urban Decay's Primer Potion -- I'm going back to Sephora this afternoon to pick up another as I finally ran out of mine. It's the only thing that allows me to wear eye shadow that will look decent beyond an hour due to my freakishly oily eyelids!! |

Yes, UD is terrific - my favorite, but a cheaper alternative is Lumene eyelid primer which is sold only at CVS. It's really quite good!
Again, the Lumene line is exclusive to CVS.
If the primer potion is not on your radar right now, give it a shot!

I am going to have to try this urban decay!!!! At the moment I use MAC paints as a base or MAC powder swiped over my lids. |

I just went back and checked the reviews of UD Primer Potion on MUA and nearly choked on my bagel! Someone described the packaging as looking like “Barbie’s First Vibrator.” I have to admit that I wouldn’t have thought to describe it in exactly those terms, but now I realize that she has a point...but who the hell cares? This stuff allows me to wear eye makeup for the first time in my life without fear of it migrating south to my cheeks before my 10am break!! |

I use the Lumene lid primer. I like it! It is the first eyelid primer I have ever used though so I have nothing to compare it with....except my eyeshadow lasts all day now where before it was faded by lunch.

Thanks for the info on the cheaper alternative, Maria! I love putting high-end products in a head-to-head competition with a cheaper counterpart (i.e.: the $50USD Diamancel Foot File against the less than $10USD Luxor or Ms. Manicure Diamond Foot File in which they both performed equally as well), so I’ll probably stop by CVS on the way home and pick some of this Lumene stuff up. Then tomorrow, I’ll apply UD Primer Potion to on eyelid and the Lumene to the other and give my findings – it’s starting to get hot down here in TX, so it should be an interesting test (my über-oily eyelids and the TX heat/humidity – it’s a wonder that either of them will stand a chance!!)....Whenever I post reviews on MUA, if I gave a product a negative rating, I always try to suggest an alternative so others can have the chance to make an informed decision – although I’m sure it drives the MUA people fug-buck when I do this!! |

Hello!
Both products sound like worth a try!
I hope I will be able to find at least one of them.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Carrie -
You'll have to let me know how it goes with the Lumene. I know your weather is going to be getting hot - it's still between the 40s and 50s here in New Hampshire.
To make the Lumene a little toughter, I have sometimes used a mineral makeup powder over my lids, b/c mine tend to get oily too, but again, so far so good. I like your idea of the side by side test.
Someone on the mineral makeup boards suggested that if you think your UD genie bottle is gone, take out the little gromet thingy from the top and you should get plenty more uses out of it - haven't tried it yet tho.
I've seen some of your reviews on MUA, and I love that you offer alternatives. You've hooked me up with a couple of very cool products like Lamas Lip Enhancer and of course the latest and greatest Natural Glow to name a couple.
Screw Paula Begouin - do what Carrie says! lol!
