Many medical photodynamic therapy protocols combine light therapy at the same time as a topical medicine. DUSA, some psoriasis therapies, etc. Even green tea is claimed to increase benefits of red light therapy substantially. I think in general, the mechanism is increased absorption of the topical into the dermis and possibly into the cells themselves. In addition red light has an anti-inflammatory effect which can lessen the side effects of powerful topicals while retaining their efficacy..
I wonder if powerful red light therapy (Joovv/Omnilux ~100mw/cm2 power) could boost the effects of a chemical peel such as glycolic or salicylic if applied during the peel? |

I really don't know? I would imagine that the penetration of a chemical peel would already be determined by the strength of the acid used and by the layering.
I know that with dermal needling its often advised to not use LED for a few days to allow the inflammation stage of healing to do its thing but I am not sure if it would be the same with a peel? I know many salons do a combination treatment of microdermabration, a light peel and led but I think that is typically to calm down redness. |
