The first thing I have to say about this lip moisturiser is that definitely comes in the largest box I've ever seen a lip balm come in! I bet I could fit a 100mL bottle of moisturiser in there! Anyways... onto the review!
I ended up buying this after declarations by Carrie that she has found her ultimate lip balm in the Gatineau. Being somewhat of a lipbalm addict myself (but nowhere near being the pro that Carrie is ) I couldn't quite resist the review and went out and bought this - ouch! This is pricy! I can see why Carecate really likes it though because it *is* a very good lip moisturiser that really does *stay* on the lips the whole night. I must say I was quite surprised by its staying power.
Regardless, I am really torn about this lipbalm (or lip moisturiser, which is a better description). Yes, it stays on the lips for ages - which is great! But, this is a pink thick cream (in a squeeze tube) that seems to make my lips look much paler than they actually are. It also does add a sheen to them but because it makes my lips look paler, the sheen looks a tad weird and washes me out a bit. So, while this is wonderful to use at night, it's not something that I can use during the day - at least not by itself. If I'm planning on wearing lipstick or lipgloss over a lipliner then this happens to also be a wonderful choice. The lipliner really goes on smoothly on this and does not slip slide around like it does on some other more oily lip balms (like Decleor for example).
So the verdict is this:
1. Great to use at night.
2. Great to use as a lipstick/lipliner base.
3. Not so good by itself (for me) during the day. This is where Decleor lip balm beats it hands down. The Decleor makes my lips shiny, makes them appear fuller and more flushed (plus it smells divine!). Can't argue with that! |

Hi Mabsy
Hope your good! I thought I might add I remember the Gatineau Specialist (on QVC) said you can use this as a lip mask by pasting *loads* of it over your lips and leaving it on overnight, and apparently this maximises its effect.
Hope that helps.
Gotta dash, gotta revise!

This is why I've never been tempted to buy this product. Having seen somebody else wearing it I didn't like the pale, pearlescent look it gave to the lips. I'm not a fan of frosted look lip products and so decided to steer clear of this stuff. I have pale skin too and if I wear a pearlised lipstick/balm my lips disappear and I look even more deathly pale than usual. |

I trowel it on at night! and then in the day I use my glam shine over the top of it, I don;t like the pink pearl shine it gives but just love the product.
MMmmmmm I think I might have to buy the decleor one now.... |

I agree that it does make lips pale but I love the moisturizing effect it has on my lips. I use it at night mostly and no longer wake up with chapped lips like I used to. I also sometimes use it during the day when I am too lazy to apply the lip gloss. |

I've been using this for 4 days now. I too have a huge collection of lip balm. I have chapped lips that bother me down here in high humidity and are almost unbearable when I go home to Canada. I'm hoping this will help. I don't mind the way this looks as long as I don't put too much on. I welcome a little color because I can't wear lipstick at all, it looks absurd on my peeling lips. I'm going to put a lot on tonight and see if they look better in the morning. |

Thanks carekate, after the first night of using a heavy application of the lip care my lips were softer and I was able to exfoliate using brown sugar and camellia oil. I keep a tub of that in the shower, it smells so yummy. There is definately some improvement already. They don't feel like they will crack when I smile! |

How does this compare to Dr. H's lip care stick? This sounds like something I would like to try. |

I prefer to use the Dr Hauschka one during the day but at night I think the Gatineau is better than the Dr Hauschka. I still prefer Delceor most of all at night though... |
