I just ordered some hair supplies from vitaminlife.com and they included a sample of vitamins with my order. They provided a single dose! I just have to laught because I don't think it's possible to feel the effects of vitamins with one single dose. Am I missing something here? |

Well it is, my "women's multivitamin" tablet (with large doses of C and B in it) does it to me every single time. However, sending *one* pill is kinda funny! Maybe they reckon it's so that you can see that your pee changes color and therefore know that the vitamin is not a dud |

Hey, I have a question. About vitamins turning your pee a fluorescent color - I went to see this naturopathic doctor, and he said if your vitamins are turning your urine a bright color, then throw them away. He said that means they are synthetic & your body isn't absorbing the nutrients. He told me to get this brand that is whole-food source, and now my pee is a normal color again. Has anyone else ever heard this?
I know it's a wierd question, but since I read this thread, I have been wondering.

From my understanding, your pee changing colour is because the vitamins are water soluble, and your body can only absorb so much, therefore, the fluorescent colour is just excess. I think that if you were to eat a large quantity of citrus fruits, the same thing would happen...and that is totally natural.
There are 2 schools of thought on vitamins. The first, would be like your naturopath; believing that food based vitamins, like New Chapter or the brand you purchased, are the only way to go. Because they are food based, some believe that you need less. The second group of followers, like myself, believe in mega doeses. I want to give my body the maximum amount of vitamins that it can absorb. I take the mega doses, and some days I probably need less, but as long as they are water soluble, it won't harm you. My multi has 500mg of vitamin C and you can take up to 5 tablets per day. A food based brand, like New Chapter, contains only 100mg of C, and you can take up to 3. I'll bet that if you took an equal amount, per mg, of the synthetic vitamins and the food based vitamins, the effect would be the same. |

yeah you can try nutritional yeast flakes, which are very high in vitamin b. anyways vitamin bs can turn your urine that color. i can take one 1000 mg vitamin b complex, or about 3 doses of the NYF and my pee will be the same color |

I agree with Faith. The color change comes from water soluble vitamins that have not been absorbed by your body because it didn't need them. If you took a much smaller amount of the same vitamin then your urine would be normal. I could swear that the color of pee actually varies even though you are taking the same vitamin. I always took that to mean that sometimes your body needs more of the vitamin and sometimes less. Not sure if that's true. |

Yeah, I think you all are right! I compared the whole food vitamins I have now with the other ones I had bought at GNC (the ones the naturopath said were synthetic) and the doses are smaller - but it still says only to take one per day. Hmmm...I don't know what to believe. I don't feel any different taking the whole foods ones. I guess I could alternate them - GNC one day, whole food the next? That way I'd get the best of both worlds! |
