Does anyone have problems when using products containing salicylic acid? I am currently using a new shampoo called Lanza solutions urban elements remedy, it seems to have caused pimples and crusting on my scalp, also my back and the sides of my face are all dried up and irritated. I can't seem to see anything that would irritate in the ingredients except for the salicylic acid. I am going to stop using it and see if things clear up, but was wondering if the acid could be the culprit?
Does anyone know of a good shampoo for irritated scalp besides the coal tar ones, I can't stand the smell of those! Hoping carekate will read this, she knows everything about haircare! |

Hi Moosette, I've been using a 3% salicylic acid shampoo, for psoriasis, for a month now and it helps with the itching and dry patches, seems to lessen both. I purposely looked for one without irritants such as fragrance or sodium laureth sulfate, the brand I found without these irritants is Psorasin and the ingredients are:
Ingredients
Active:
Salicylic Acid 3%
Inactive:
Lauramidopropyl Betaine; Panthenol (Pro Vitamin B5); Phospholipid EFA; Purified Water; Sodium Chloride; Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate
I've tried cole tar too and found it is soothing but don't like the smell or what it does to my hair (weighs it down) but it might be good to use temporarily to get your scalp back in shape.
Post your salicylic acid shampoo's ingredients, maybe there *is* an irritant included or, you may just be sensitive to sa. I've used different brands with very little success and increased irritation but have discovered that it's not the sa causing my trouble but another added irritant like fragrance, SLS and/or Isopropyl Alcohol. I'm finding sa to be the most effective acne and psoriasis treament, in the right formulation. I haven't done my sig yet (what a great idea) so am editing to add I too have sensitive skin, oy, what fun, hey? |

salicylic acids cause me to break out and dry up really badly. I avoid them like the plague!!
They work great for a lot of people, just not me |

Sounds like it could be the salicylic acid. I can't use anything with that in as it makes my skin really dry. |
