currently, i am using the sponge supplied in the JI pressed powder. that gets icky because after i put on my sunscreen, it kinda sticks to it. so i dont think it is a very gd method. furthurmore, it makes my makeup go on thick and cakey, something unnatural which i do not want. should i get a brush? will it help me apply my powders better? also, i heard sparying some mist over your face after applying make up helps make it look fresh and natural too. if so, which one will do the trick? jurlique rose water looks good. Lastly, after applying makeup, my face looks too white. i dont think its the powder colour because i chose warm sienna, and thats suppose to be mid tone right? ah well. need help here =) lol. Also, if you've used jurlique rose dust before, i wonder if its effective in controlling oil throughout the day and whether it makes your face look even whiter! lol. thanks |

I much prefer the JI Handi brush to apply mineral foundations. I find it easier, less messy, and more natural looking. I do finish with a spritz of something on my face. That "something" has been the JI sprays, the SircuitSkin spray, and also the Jurlique Rosewater spray. All work equally well.
Re: Jurlique Silk Dust - it doesn't make me look whiter but I'm rather pale to begin with |

See my post under this link for a review of Jurlique Silk Dust and it’s oil-controlling abilities: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=2067&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=rose+silk+dust. I think it’s fantastic and it has become my holy grail face powder! |

My skin will *always* be oily, but using the Decleor Y-Y oil has helped change it so it *behaves* more like normal/oily combo skin. The difference is actually like night and day! I know that if I ever stop using these products, then my skin will quickly revert back to it’s normal oil factory.... If you want to see all of the products in my oil-fighting arsenal, read my post at this link: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=5660&start=0 |

Have you tried using a primer? I have found that makes my make-up go on much smoother, leaves me looking more natural, and my make-up lasts all day long now.

I can’t tell by your post where you live but if you’re in the U.S., I highly recommend that you stop by your closest Sephora store and request a sample of the Decleor Aromessence Y-Y oil *and* a sample of the Decleor Hydra-matte Regulating Fluid, that way you can try before you commit to anything to make sure that you won’t have an adverse reaction or anything, especially since the Y-Y oil *is* kinda pricey ($60USD for an one-ounce bottle)....BTW, there’s a recipe for a homemade version of the Decleor Y-Y oil under the ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~DIY Skincare~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ link. I haven’t tried it myself yet, because I’m still lacking one of the essential oils needed (I’m ordering it today!), but I’ll be making myself a batch later this month.
The Y-Y oil will help control your oiliness, but I’d also like to suggest that you incorporate a homemade Apple Cider Vinegar toner into your routine. Click here to read more about it: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=6102&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= and the recipe for ACV toner can be found here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=5981&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
And finally, to help control your breakouts, you might want to think about Yonka Juvenil and Yonka Creme PG. You would use these products at night and the Decleor Y-Y oil and (if desired) the Hydra-matte Regulating Fluid during the day. EDS member Lisa from Boston has posted lots of good info about these Yonka products and how they’ve helped turn her skin around, so you might want to perform a search using “Juvenil” and “ChunLisa” as the keywords to read more about it. |

Cheap brushes? I’ve tried ‘em, and all they end up doing is shedding like crazy and scratching the hell out of my face! I’m of the opinion that one should invest a few $$ in a high quality brush which, if taken care of properly, will last a lifetime. I think many of the other members would agree with me on this one! Personally, I recommend the Jane Iredale Handi Brush – I use it to apply both my JI pressed foundation and the Jurlique Rose Silk Dust. It costs around $38USD, but if you look around on Ebay, sometimes you can find them for about $20USD.
As for which spritz, I’ve only ever used the JI “Balance” (with Ylang Ylang oil, made specifically for oily skin) spritz. I liked it well enough, although I was using at as a moisturizer rather than to set my makeup. I don’t use it any longer, as I’ve found some Yonka products that work better for me (I use them at night, the Decleor Y-Y oil and Hydra-matt Fluid are my daytime products). My bottle of JI Balance spritz is still 2/3 full. I’m offering it up free to anyone who wants it, all I ask is that the person pay for the cost of postage. If you’re interested, send me a PM. First come, first served! |

do you think you are applying too much sunblock or foundation?
It could also be that waiting for a while before applying the JI helps.
Spritzing is definately good for loose powders, but I don't know if it works the same for pressed powder, but if it is a light one it should help.

There was a discussion just recently about physical sunscreens (e.g. Zinc Oxide, titanium dioxide) affecting the colour of mineral foundations, basically they are already minerals and then you're putting more minerals over them. I think it depends on your skin tone. If you're warm like me then using Skinceuticals Ultimate Defence and then applying my JI makes me look curiously pallid and pink. So it may be that you need to use a different sunscreen rather than you're putting too much on.
...and I didn't find spritzing over JI pressed useful. |

This is a big problem with me as well. I mean, a person HAS to wear sunscreen..yet any powder cosmetic you put over cakes up!! ARRRGH!
So now, I skip the powder and use concealer instead. This is much better and looks natural. Oh, and I use a cream blush. One thing is for sure, you cannot combine powder and cream because IT WILL look cakey. HTHs! |

Hi, there! I agree with "guapagirl's" suggestion to wait a bit before you apply your foundation. I wait a few minutes after I apply my sunblock before I apply my foundation. I also make sure to pat my sunblock in. Maybe you can try using a different sublock also that isn't so sticky? I find Obagi SP35 isn't too bad and neither is Sage Skincare or Paula's CHoices Essential non greasy sunblocks. To make your foundation look more natural, you can use a face brush to buff it in and then use a sponge to smooth out and touch up afterwards. I touch up at the hairline, around the nostrils, etc... |

I think, in the first place, using a sponge to apply JI pressed base is not recommended. The sponge does not help in applying a thin and even layer because when you "take" the powder with the sponge, it gets accumulated in one spot.
The cakeyness has also to do with the fact that applying mineral makeup directly over oil makes it grab. The whiteness has nothing to do with the shade of your powder - it is the natural reflective properties of the minerals you are seeing. That may mean you are applying too thick a layer - again an issue with the sponge.
I would suggest a primer - either a very thin dusting of Jurlique rose dust (or any other general absorbant face powder), or JI's Absence. Then use a brush to apply your JI pressed.
As to whether the SPF in the JI is sufficient, it depends on how much sun protection you are looking for. If you are as paranoid as me, I would NEVER depend on (1)foundation for sun protection and (2)physical screens alone. |

I use the JI flocked sponge to apply a light coat of either Bare Minerals or JI loose mineral foundation. It doesn't look cakey, I use very, very little. Any extra coverage I need, I use a concealer or spot cover with minerals or BM Bisque instead of adding an extra layer of foundation because it's so easy to over it. Since I've been using way less foundation, I don't spritz anymore.
I am also curious as to whether the mineral foundation is enough sunscreen, especially if I'm only using it sparingly??
As for the oilies, mine have been greatly reduced with the use of vitamin c serum and the powder rather than liquid foundation. Good luck getting yours under control! Annette |

Have you consider trying Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse foundation? I'm not really a foundation wearer, but when I do wear it, this is the one I go for because the effect is so natural. Love it!
