Anyone suffered from eczema??

my eczema comes and goes and it bothers me A LOT. i am wondering if anyone knows any tip to cure it!!

To my knowledge there's no cure for it. I've gone to several dermatologists who have prescribed various steroidal creams and the latest thing I've been prescribed is Elidel (non-steroidal). It seems to work but when my eczema is BAD, I can't stop scratching! So I was prescribed this heavy duty benadryl pill and that helps keep my eczema "under control" b/c I'm not scratching and making it worse. I tend to use lightly fraganced or fragrance free products. I love to try different things for my face but to be honest, I find that Cetaphil is the best face wash!! I've also been taking this supplement - borage oil - and that seems to keep my skin looking great and my eczema down to a minimum.

The following essential oils are known to help treat eczema, although as marissao says, there is no cure. You might try making your own body oil by mixing a few drops of each of these essential oils with a carrier oil like jojoba or olive oil and smoothing it over the affected areas a couple times per day:

• Lavender essential oil
• Geranium essential oil
• Patchouli essential oil

Note: never apply essential oils “neat” (i.e.: directly onto the skin) – they should always be mixed with a carrier oil.

I have eczema (goes hand in hand with Asthma)! and I also suffer from photosensitivity. I stay away from perfumes on my skin and body lotions etc that set it off. I just use Boots E45 dermatalogical cream which seems to keep it at bay and if it flares up I use Hydrocautisone? (don't know how you spell that!!) cream from the doctor.

I've been using the Decleor Expert Contour oil and balme for 3 weeks and its left my skin lovely and smooth, and my eczema hasn't flared up. I've been using the expert contour for slimming not eczema though!

Fish oils, Vitamin E and Zinc!!!
Try going without dairy and/or wheat for a week and so if it calms down.
When your treating any skin conditions, the best way is nearly always to treat internally first.

I suffer from eczema, have since I was a baby girl...although its not as bad as when I was a youngin', it still flares up at times if I use the wrong products for my skin type. I am still looking for that "can't live without" moisturizer for my face...I've spent 100's, maybe 1000's on different moisturizers, recently I've purchased the eucerin spf15 sensitive skin moisturiser, and trying a sample of

clinique's new superdefense moisturizer. The eucerin one breaks me out in zits, and isn't very moisturizing, the clinique one seems to break me out in tiny bumps and kinda stings when I put it on, could be the sunscreen maybe? So now I have a couple more products to give away to family members Sad

.
Does anyone else that suffer from eczema have trouble using products with sunscreens?

Hi

Yes I have problems with sunscreens...I just dont bother using them now. They make me flare up!. Thank god I'm ok with Decleor self tan and St Tropez!!!!...haha

I acutally have been using SkinCeuticals Ultimate UV Defense (over my moisturizer & under my makeup) and I haven't broken out...yet! I've been using it for about 2 weeks and so far so good. I had tried Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Sunblock (supposedly a non-comedogenic, non-oily/greasy formula) but I got whiteheads as a result and felt like there was an oily film on my skin.

I too have tried different moisturizers and I have found Clinique Super Defense (for dry skin) to be good for me! Razz

my mom has it really bad on her hands and feet.

She got ellidel and it broke her out in warts. If you're prone to warts do not even try it.

Thanx guys,
I am glad I posted this topic, I feel like theres hope for the eczema on my leg (i have been dying to wear skirt/dress/shorts) i have a prescribed fluocinolone acetonide cream . it controls eczema but doesnt reli make it go away but give it a try!

Oh ya, I forgot to say that I was prescribed protopic (same stuff as elidel different name), then after using it a few times I heard that it can cause skin cancer, so I got scared and don't use it anymore. I think I'll just stick to my aveeno body lotion and cortizone creams, thank you.

Elidel or Protopic has been proven to be cancer causing, there's an article found on msnbc. If I locate, I will post on this forum.

I've lived with eczema all my life and have tried so many products.. Aveeno was effective until recently, hydrocortosine creams, steroidal creams like Aclovate, Fluocininde are good but if overused, your skin can thin out. I see that on my hands and regret using them so much as a kid when I didn't know any better.

There are mixed reviews with Elidel, it doesn't work for me personally because it itches and I wind up sratching my skin to death!! I stay away from it now.

As far as supplements, where can borage oil be found? I've been trying grapeseed oil and haven't seen much of an improvement yet. Sorry for the long response but I've still looking for that miracle to combat my eczema!!

I don't have excema myself but I treat a lot of prople who do. I do Traditional Chinese Medicine and specialize in holistic skin care. I have had great success with a Chinese herbal cream handmade by some docs in Florida. It is called "Schmoove"...and can be purchased from "A Better Health Solution". They are just getting thier web site up but I think you can call them up and order it (407)678-HERB. I have great success stories with patients ranging in age from one year to 70 years. I have also had great success with it in clearing up acne and psoriasis. A little goes a very long way and it isn't a bad price...about $38 for 2oz. I hope this helps!!!

Freckles, I can't tell where you live from your user profile, but if you're in the U.S., you should be able to find borage oil at a health food store (i.e.: Whole Foods Market) near you. If not, google "borage oil" and it'll return a ton of websites where you can purchase it online.

Oh, hey – I just saw that Walgreens (nationwide U.S. pharmacy chain) carries borage oil supplements, so maybe you can find them in the nutritional supplements aisle at any pharmacy or supermarket. I found that Elemis Milk Protein bath to be really soothing on my eczema - you can even use it as a facial cleanser or directly onto the skin as a moiusturiser - the milk whey in it is really soothing. It also seems to stop it in its tracks when I feel a breakout of eczema coming on (dry itchy red area). Obviously avoid if dairy sets yours off though!!!

I just posted under the Product Review Forum, a review for Dermadoctor Cool and Corrected. This product really worked for me (so far!) in calming my redness down. Hope others have the same experience with the product.

So the results with the chinese herbal cream, "Schmoove" will be gradual over the next three months...plan on a 90 day treatment course minimum. Continued use should give you long term results. You would only use very thin coating...less is more! A thin coat helps it to absorb good and as a bonus it lasts pretty long. It has a pleasant smell...minty. It is a brownish color due to it being made straight from the concentrated (pharmaceutical grade) herbs. I have a patient that has been using it for eczema since January on his face and scalp. He has had great results. It has taken it down completly as long as he is using the Schmoove. His was the most severe case i have treated so far. So I am pleased with his results. Normally I would include Acupuncture and herbs as well but thier finances were to tight so I said that the Schmoove would be thier best bet. As far as the eczema being eliminated completely it would depend on how bad you have it, where it is on your body, and other factors such as diet will play a role on your rate of healing. From what I have seen, I have a mild eczema, its just that it comes and goes. I have it on my leg and shoulder. As far as diet goes.. What should I avoid eating? or what should I eat more? I think I am under a lot of stress from school. I heard it causes eczema, I have no idea how to control my stress, is that why my eczema keeps coming back?? Once its healed, do I have to keep using the cream?
I have already ordered it. I am really excited!

I feel your pain!!!! I also suffer from chronic, intense eczema. Since eczema is associated with allergies first make sure you're not around anyting you're allergic to or are sensitive to. That's impossible since I'm allergic to everthing.

I use Elidel on a frequent basis to help prevent really bad flare-ups, but when it's really bad I have to resort to a steroid ointment (YUCH!) for a few days. Elidel is safe to use on your face and I've never had any problems with breakouts.

My dermatoligist recommended a moisturizer that I absolutely love. It's called Vanicream and can only be purchased from a pharmacist but no prescription is needed. It's super cheap and is similar to Eucerin but better. Beware, I think it would only be good for dry skin becasue it's super rich, although, it is non-comodegenic.

Hi Gucci,
Just wondering... I know this Decleor product is listed under "body care" BUT is it ok to use on the face too? I have a friend who is having real probs with eczema on her face and cannot find any moisturiser etc to calm it down.
