Hey guys, Im a new member. Just wanted to make a post to help anyone with eczema/dermatitis. I was diagnosed with eczema since being a toddler. I have been to specialists/naturapaths/doctors over and over again. Tried so many remedies......
It wasnt until I visited a normal GP that they diagnosed me with seborrhoeic dermatitis. A rash/fungi that breeds under hair. The GP got me some quick fix oral steroids (for 3 days) to get me the best skin in years then got me on fongitar shampoo and Aqueous cream as a soap. Best my skin has been for years!!!! |

Welcome Nathbeth!
I'm horrified that you have had something for nearly 30 years and it was a misdiagnosis But very glad that you are now feeling better
You now have to make up for all that time lost so here is a good place to start. Must say that aqueous cream is fab, it's the equivalent of a big hug for the skin |

I also have seborrhoeic dermatitis for near on 30 years and can usually keep it under control with the use of shampoos. Trouble is it flares up with a vengence at times of high stress and if I have had a too sugery diet.
Glad to hear you have finally got a correct diagnosis and are getting results from your treatment plan |

That's very interesting. My son has been diagnosed with eczema since birth. Can you tell me the difference of symptoms between eczema and seb dermatitis? I'm pretty sure it's eczema, because he gets those obvious red circles of patches. |

Fellow SD sufferer here. What is this aqueous cream that has worked wonders on you? I tried googling it and got a bunch of uk websites only.
I also have developed a bunch of brown patches on my body and legs recently. The derm said they are eczema but they don't itch at all. I thought all eczema itches like mad? |

SD is confined to the face and scalp usually as it starts on the scalp. It starts with patches of what can only be described as patches of scaly raised red skin in the hair line which flakes off in yellowish greasy flakes. Its basically cradle cap.
As it progresses patches appear on the forehead, eyebrows, nose, cheeks and chin, and ears leaving the skin looking very red, thickened and sore. My last attack was so bad that using a face cloth made my face bleed
The only treatment is selenium shampoo and lotions. In some cases steriods will be used. I manage mine with the use of Head and Shoulders and the occasional use of Nizoral shampoo which has to be left on for five minutes before rinsing. I also use this on my face. There is a yahoo group of sufferers who are getting great results with apple cider vinegar but I have found it too harsh for me.
Aqueous cream is a light, non-greasy moisturiser that provides a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface.
It is made from a mixture of emulsifying ointment (which contains paraffin oils) and water, with phenoxyethanol as an antimicrobial preservative. Over here in the uk this is a pretty popular soother for all skin problem.
Hope that helps |
