Hello Everyone:) I love the soft, silky feeling of the Bare Minerals makeup and must say without a doubt since using it that I no longer break out in blemishes. But, my skin seems so very dry after applying the foundation. I faithfully moisturize before. What is happening? Thanks. |

I dont know what was happening, but I do have the same problem like you. I used to have combination skin and should not be that bad.. but I really dont know..
In addition to that, I have another problem, see if you are able to help, I just cant get the right color no matter how I tried..Ijust have no idea whether it's the wrong shade or just my poor application techniques, I am not able to get the right color, also, I just cant get the warmth on my face, they look so artificial .... I purchased the starter kit and have the foundations, veil, and warmth, but thus far, I still havent got the right look .. it was a bit disappointed for me coz .. I had hig expectation for this line (BE) after reading all those positive feedback here .. maybe they just dont suit me .. or I will need to practice?
Share with me your experience if you have also come across the problems too.
Thanks |

Nice to meet you! I think I'm ok with the shade (I think) but I've only been using it for a week. It is true, though, that since I've stopped using liquid foundation and began this regime, my ugly blemishes have disappeared. Yeah.
I do like the mineral veil. I too, am still experimenting with the mixture of colors.
But why is it, nothing ever appears in real life the way the it appears in the infomercials? ha ha |

Powders will definitely dry out the skin. Even the mineral powders. No powder "out there" is moisturizing for the skin. Other than using only a liquid foundation, I would just go with a concealer. |

Sorry to disagree but not all powders are created equal! Talc will dry the skin but that's not the main ingredient in mineral cosmetics. I don't use BE but you could use an oil or lotion and mix the minerals in your hand with it. Many dry skinned gals do it that way. Botany 101 now makes minerals for dry skin but, alas, they have a waiting list to order. Jane Iredale (and others) make a "heavy" H2O which can be lightly sprayed on the skin after applying minerals if you feel that you are dry. That should help. You can also lightly spray your kabuki brush and then put the minerals on for a soft application. Oh, also, the rubbing of your brush could be causing your skin to dry. Make sure you don't buff too much and use a soft kabuki - like the Luscious or the Japonesque bronzer brush. Alexis |

Alexis52,
Thanks for the advice about mixing the minerals with lotion.
I've tried a few brands of mineral makeup. Love the coverage you get with only a bit but this stuff is accentuating my lines.
My final test has been with BareEscentuals which seemed to be the best bet but I had the same problem again.
Before I give up on the powders entirely, I'll give this a go with a little lotion in my hand.
Thanks agin for the tip. |

This is a pretty old topic and I see that people have already answered but I came across this topic in a google search and I figured i'd add.
My sister works at Sephora as a make-up artist and she raves about Bare Minerals.. i've been thinking of getting it for myself.. but she recently got some literature on it (basically a guide on the products w/ selling points and how to apply it and such).
Well it gives a list of how to counter adverse effects. One of them talks about if you get dry skin from the product.
Here are the steps to take:
1) Apply a heavier creme on dryer skin, and allow 5 minutes to completely absorb into the skin.
2) Add a moisture or water mist on top of the bareMinerals; or a product with hydrating properties.
3) Buff, buff, buff.
hope that helps |

Iz, the colour selection for BE foundation is not the best. It's also confusing because colours do not necessarily run from palest to darkest according to number. The numbers more accurately describe the colour undertones of the foundations rather than how pale or dark they are:
#1 "fair" is for fair skinned people with cool pink undertones in their skin
#1.2 & #2 are called "light" & "fairly light", but they contain very golden yellow undertones.
#3 is a more universal medium shade - again for people with cooler pink undertones.
It could be that you are currently using a shade that does not match your skin undertones. Do you know if your skin has warmer or cooler undertones? This might help you find a better match.
As for the "warmth", well... unless your skin is naturally med/dark with warm undertones, it just won't work (even in the smallest amount!) I am naturally fair with cool pink undertones and even just a touch of warmth looks awful on me.
Keep playing around with your BE & see if you can purchase some other colour samples from an E-bay seller. Less is more when applying! When you start buffing, it helps to start on the outer edges of your face first. This will help prevent over application on the middle of your face.
Despite some of the drawbacks to BE, I really like it because it has had a positive affect on my troubled skin.
I am now using #1 all over my face as its a better match for my pale pinkier skin tones. I still use the #1.2 that came in my kit, but just for concealing reddish discolorations.
Hope this helps! If BE just doesn't work for you, there are tons of other mineral make-up brands to try |

cheezwiz...I used the fair for my skin as well, as i have very cool white skin with some pink undertones in the cheek area. people would say my skin looked peach, which has forced me to try other mineral lines. Also, for the question on the topic...the BE dried my skin out a lot as well. I use aromaleigh glissade foundation now, and my skin is reacting a lot better to it than even the BE...makeup comes off perfect without dry patches. Also, no shiny afterwards! lovely matte finish and no funky pink/peach look..No bismuth as well...awesome If i do say myself;) |

Purpletude -
Glad you're loving the Aromaleigh. Sometimes when I recommend products I get so nervous that they won't work as well for someone else as they do for me. (Actually, you may not even have found AL because of my recommendation, but if you did, I'm glad!)
I just recently ordered a slew of samples of AL's new lipgloss. It is fabulous!!!! Not sticky, lasts, yummy scent.....
AL is poised to go to the next level, I think. Kristen, the creator, just keeps coming up with terrific products.

Hi Maria
Does Aromaleigh ship outside of the US? I am in Canada & can't keep straight which mineral companies ship internationally & which don't.
It looks like Aromaleigh as a lovely selection of samples to try. Can you recommend other mineral lines? Do you like Pure Luxe? I was really impressed with their website and am tempted to try some samples. |

Is it possible to decide yourself if you are cool or warm toned? I have a feeling I could be warm but have no idea, and never been told.

Hi Cheezwiz -
I don't think Aromaleigh ships outside the U.S. - I'm sorry about that. Do you have anyone in the states who could get it to you? I can't imagine how much more business AL would have if they shipped outside the states.
Yes, PureLuxe is a very nice line as is Bare Faced Minerals, as is Everyday Minerals, Mineral Boutique, and Melange - you can find these and other links to lines at the ever helpful, always overwhelming (lol!) delphi forums forums.delphiforums.com/mineralmania/start where you'll be amazed at all the different lines. None of these lines contain bismuth oxychloride, but some add vitamins and extracts to give them a more silky feel and easier application....All of the above offer samples at very reasonable prices (Everyday Minerals samples are FREE!), so it's kind of a trial and error thing. I'm not sure how many of them ship outside the U.S.
Good luck!!!! Maria |

Maddy -
We tend to know what colors we feel and look our best in - but as far as foundation goes your best bet is to do the line test - that is - take a warm foundation that is close to your level of skin color and draw a line from you upper cheek to lower and next to it, do the same with a cool foundation and see which one blends into you skin more. If you have a Prescriptives Counter nearby, that's how they determine what undertone you have - also try a neutral. I think as long as you get the foundation right, whatever you add to your canvas for color is up to you!!! A couple of tips that might help you determine your undertone - do you look better in silver (cool) or gold (warm)jewelry or look good in both ?(neutral) Do pink tones go peach on you? (warm) Do you look better in white (cool) or cream (warm). Look at the inside or your wrist - are your veins predominantly blue (cool) or green-ish (warm) or a combo (neutral).
Hope that helps a little!!
