i've spent so much money on cosmetics. I'm just really honestly tired of it all. My skin is pretty good now. I havent' used anything on it in 2 weeks. Just wash it with Dr H cleansers and thats it. I've tried Retin-A,Obagi,La Mer, La prairie,DDF,dermalogica, lauder, chanel, dior, lancome, origins, clinique, perricone, etc etc etc.........u name it's been on my face.(feels like that) i've been on the perricone diet for about 4 weeks and my skin has never looked better. I starting to think what you put in is more important then what you slap on. or is there one product that is out there that i'm just missing out on.???
as I said i'm using the Dr H cleansers. i have all the other stuff. rose day/ day oil/ but i was starting to get real deep blackheads. I wanted to believe that it was working. but it's all the same.
what i'm looking for: Something Light that will protect,lighten/brighten/now over try/not oily/no junk/not cause breakouts/help with blackheads/ no price limit.
I have combo/sensitive/breakouts easy/blackheads/thin/some red. SKIn.
THANKS |

Hi skinprofusion!
I have read your past reviews on obagi, and you were quite happy with the results you got from the line. Are you not happy with the line anymore??. |

I agree -- what you put into your body is more important than what you put on your skin. I have noticed that after a short fast my skin looks absolutely fabulous, without the help of any products. That being said, I swear by Dr. H cleansing cream. If I want a little color I add a little bronzing cream to my moisturizer and that seems to do the trick for now. |

Hi Skinprofusion
I think you're just going through a bad patch. Me too so I absolutely sypathize with your feelings.
Last few weeks I was raving about this or that and now I look at myself in the mirror and think 'what a load of BS'. I'm looking old and tired, but I think no amount of topicals can affect your look when you're going through a bad patch.
I've had enough too. I'm not buying anything (this week) - M
p.s. Cellcosmet eye cream is the loveliest! Go on try it |

might be a way to describe it..

Well what I'm getting at after a week my acne had calmed right down and everyone said how my skin was looking so much better and what was I using. I didn't tell them of course |

I agree with Molly...maybe your skin is just going through a phase. Now is a perfect opportunity to save money!! I sometimes think the problem is that we use too many actives on our skin at one time. I went through a phase in which I was so totally obsessed with aging that I put about 10 different products on just before sleeping. It was all counter productive, and I just ended up looking dull. My point...stick to the basics for a bit
Something light, to lighten and brighten?? Sounds like Vit C serum, to me
Get a good one, and some suncreen, and call it a day. |

I'm so happy to be reading this thread. Not about all of your frustration, just about all of this product concern stuff. I was going to start a thread saying that if all of these products worked then there would be no need for this forum !
It is so great to chat with fellow product junkies but I'm starting to think that "less (really) is more". That said, I now have hundreds of dollars of products crammed into my bathroom. Part of me feels that I must use them all because I spent so much money on them and that I should be committed to a program. The other part of me feels that I should just go out and buy a bar of Dove soap!!!
Years ago a dermatologist I had at the time said there was a psychological aspect to skin care products; that if we believe in them and feel good about putting them on, then they will work better for us.
Do you all believe that?
I'm not sure what to believe anymore! I really feel that I'm going through a "I'm so old and ugly that nothing will work" phase I just want simple and effective. I don't think that is too much to ask for, is it? joani |

Finally, a good thread on the things that DON'T work. I say theres nothing. The effect is ALWAYS temporary. Once you wash the product off or stop using it your skin goes back to the way it was before you used that particular product. There isn't a single lotion, potion, wrinkle cream, peptide, enzyme that works (including mine!!) Lets keep our money ladies. |

I am so happy to see this thread!!
I do agree with what everyone has previously mentioned. Even though I am a minimalist, I'm still a junkie! Plus my pocket book is very light these days so no new products in awhile.
I can tell you this with much conviction. STRESS reaks havoc on your skin/body. I hardly ever breakout, but lo and behold I have 2 huge zits on my chin! Yes it's stress..major stress. With all of the stress I eat like crap, sleep like crap, feel like crap and uugh look like crap...to me anyways. Even if I used the most expensive products or highest acclaimed product, I think I would still have these breakouts. I really cant tell you guys how happy I am to read your posts. I've had a tough go of it lately and have felt like I wasn't doing enough for my skin, product wise. Now I know I was mistaken, my gut was right though. I really am starting to feel the simplier the better, in life, love and skin too!
Sorry for the ramble, and Skinprofusion have you looked into YonKa moisturizers?? They have many and usually you can get samples. This is the line I'm using now. |

I agree with Lifeplyr0. I think no amount of stuff can compensate for the last few months and especially the last few days of STRESS. I'm looking really haggard.
But I really wouldn't go the whole hog like SuzieQ. These things do work, marginally and in the long-run but they're not magic.
I've gone back to my Skinbio since last night. It's a bit of a staple for me, maybe it's comfort food for my skin (so, yes with a bit of a psychological aspect to it) and I feel a little bit better than yesterday. M |

I'm a true believer that expensive usually means it's not a great product! I don't know why, maybe it's the dishonesty a company shows when selling an eye cream for $200 an ounce when it actually costs $2 for the products inside and maybe $20 for the gold plated bottle it comes in. |

Fun topic!
There are a couple of items I'm interested in purchasing, but apart from that, I refuse to spend hundreds of dollars on skincare lines.
Instead on my to buy list are some simple products from the Organic Makeup Company. I really believe that for the most part, less is more.
I have noticed a huge improvement in my skin since switching to mineral makeup. I used to have to rely on perscription meds to keep my facial flare-ups in check. Since switching to minerals my face has improved dramatically & I'm not on medication.
I think everyone goes through rough patches - whether through diet, or stress. I sympathize with all of you who feel frustrated! I often feel this way too. Its always fun to try new products, I've just learned not to expect miracles |

I think we all go through it, it could be we haven't been eating right or getting enough sleep or just feeling a bit low so when we look in the mirror we see only the faults.
Skinprofusion. I had the same problem with the Dr.H cleanser, it was a product I wanted to like, it left my skin feeling great but seemed to clog my pores
Anyhow, bottle of Dermalogica daily microfoliant later and I'm happy as anything (hasn't stopped me from getting a load of Jurlique to try-just wanted to give natural another go ).
It brightens and softens and it would be the first place in my book to start. |

I am so glad it is not just me. I look like complete s*** at the moment. I keep looking in the mirror and wondering if I looked better before I embarked on this humungous spending on skincare spree. I can't remember but I don't think I could have looked worse.
I guess it is life at the moment I am very busy, tired & stressed not eating properly, not getting a relaxed nights sleep and wondering why how I look is the most important issue in my life. Oh yes on my monthly as well. I expect I will be ok again next week. It helps to share. |
