Hi All
Based on several very good reviews of the C + AHA formula by SC I ordered some recently.
I am recently very prone to adult acne, espec hormonal and was hoping to combine the benefits of the Vit C with the AHAs. I was previously using L-ascorbic Acid combined with Aloe Vera with no problems.
I have been using SC about 1.5wks now and recently had a very bad breakout on my cheeks and jawline. I was wondering if it could be related to this product causing a purge and whether I should disc using once only in AM or stick with it since this stage should pass.
TIA

Do you think the AHA is loosening up dead skin cells, then they are shedding and blocking your pores? Maybe you need a physical exfoliant to help remove the cells and keep pores clear? Also, an enzyme cleanser/mask will actually dissolve the dead skin cells so they can't block pores.
Personally, though, I'd stop using until you clear up then try a patch test in a very small area to see if you have a reaction again. |

Yes I test under my chin. I haven't had a reaction been using Skinceuticals for about a year. I also have my own formula with aloe and vit C.
I think Betterat40's suggestion is likely. People who have oily skin or are prone to acne often break out after a facial or when the microcirulation is improved. This long term may be good but it is a pain in the neck. |

Now that I think of it, i actually did the Epidermx treatment around the time of the breakout and am now wondering if it is more attributable to the increased exfoliation from that treatment. Anybody else have experience with Epidermx and Vit C products for acne prone skin. I haven't done another Epidermx tx since. Was going to wait until the breakout subsided. |

I have heard of alot of people that have used this & have broken out. I tried the CE ferulic and I broke out horribly. I discontinued it and cleared up. |

When I first started the C+AHA I broke out also. But after 2 weeks, my skin adjusted and with all the products I have used, this is the only product I will never do without. My skin is much clearer and my face is more tone. It could be the Epidermix. I use Epidermx 3 times a week and find that my skin tends to feel oily after rinsing it off. But I do like the results of Epdermix too! |

Thanks for the shared experience Mysty. I hope that this is just a purging period and will pass. I am going to cut back to using it once every other day in the AM and judge from there. My skin has responded OK to AHAs in the past so hopefully this is just an adjustment period.

I will also back off the Epidermx for now...one new thing at a time. |
