Anyone have any suggestions on flat irons? I've done the Japanese Ionic Straightening before and have a professional ceramic flat iron (Hair Art), but I want to invest in a better one.
Has anyone tried the new T3 wet-dry or T3 Tourmaline flat iron by HairArt yet? I heard they're supposed to be a lot less damaging to the hair. The only problem I have is the idea of putting a flat iron directly on my wet hair! That's supposedly what you are able to do with the wet-dry one, and it supposedly does not damage it!
Any thoughts?

Hi Honeydew,
The T3 is supposed to be the best flat iron right now, it was rated best flat iron by In Style magazine. I agree about ironing wet hair, it seems like a big no no. I did it once to my hair and it sizzled.
I have a HAI and it works really well as does the Chi.. just some recommendations in case you don't go with the T3. |

Freckles, thanks for the reply! I appreciate the advice! I'm most likely going to be buying the T3 3/8 inch one that can straighten/flip/curl. The wet-dry one seems a little too easy for my liking. I'm also pretty skeptical on how that'll work. Seems to me without the blowdrying it may leave hair without any volume as well (although some people may want that)!
If I get it, I'll post and let people know how it is!

I had a Chi for years & loved it. Finally it broke, and I was going to buy anothe rone. My stylist told me to try this one called Ceramic Tools by Jilbere - it was a cheapo brand from sally's so I was skeptical. She said it is just as good as the Chi, that it has all the same features. So I got one & I love it! It does work just as well as the Chi and it was like $40. I'm so glad she told me! |

So what do you think girls - is it worth hanging up my trusty (Mk1!)GHD 1" irons that I've had for ages and invest in a T3 Tourmaline iron? My GHDs are still working fine but are somewhat battered and tatty but they do the job. Despite all they say I do get dryer ends on my long hair from them though so the T3 is tempting as it's supposed to be less damaging than traditional ceramic irons. Any opinions greatly received!
Anyone used both? Which do you prefer and why?
(Quick replies please before OH can confiscate my card!! ) |

I have the T3. I have tried many products from Japanese straight perms to gold plated irons and the T3 is the best so far. I was nervous about the whole wet/dry thing too, but one day I had to use it on wet hair (running quite late) and the results were great. I actually feel that it is less damaging than blow drying and then using the flat iron. After 4 months of use I can't say for sure whether my hair is healthier than with my old flat iron, but the results are better and my hair seems shinier, to me anyway. I think in a few more months I will be able to say for sure, my problem is that the Japanese straight perm really fried my hair, so the hair that still has the straight perm is still really damaged. |

I posted this info a while back, but apparently the newest generation of flat-irons are made of glass or jade...heres the link: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=3649&highlight=conair if you want to check them out before making your purchase.
Also, heres what the lone-reviewer on MUA had to say about the T3 Tourmaline Wet-to-Dry Straigtening Iron:
Slmaturo, 03/19/05:
OK, I'm SHOCKED no one has reviewed this yet! (Or I just couldn't find it!) I have THROWN AWAY my hair dryer!! (Just kidding) But really, I can't remember the last time I even used it! This iron makes my hair straight and shiny (ala Jennifer Aniston) and works SO much better than anything I've ever tried! And I've tried a lot! You can use this on WET hair! I use a microfiber towel/turban when I get out of the shower, and by the time I'm ready otherwise, I can pretty much start using my iron. In 10-15 min or less, I have DRY, shiny straight hair. The thing actually has steam coming out the holes in it to evaporate the water in your hair. I have never seen my hair look this good, ever. Works even better with Biosilk Silk therapy on the wet hair and Thermasilk spray on leave in conditioner as a "setting mist". I admit the price tag is steep, but this thing is so easy to use, doesn't pull hair when moving it down the section, and saves me so much time (and damage) from not having to blowdry! If I could recommend one product to everyone in the world, I would pick this. The quality also seems great. I've had this a few months and despite using it with product in my hair (usually a crusty ugly mess results), the thing looks brand new. I don't know what to think about the whole tourmaline thing, but if that's why it works so well, then so be it! I think I could go on for days, but I'll restrain myself for now. BUY THIS TODAY if you can!!! |

CareKate, thanks for that have done a bit of research - think I'll try to remain focussed on the T3s though glass sounds like I'd break it and jade sounds a bit daft and expensive!!
Quick question for T£ owners - are the plates squared off on the edges or slightly rounded like GHDs? I only ask as if they are very square rather than a 'soft' square ( does that make any kinda sense?!?!)it can leave lines on you hair!! Also can you curl with the normal flat iron like you can with the GHD?
Thanks!
(If they have the soft edges I'm going to go for it, all I have to decide is do I stick to GHD sized 1" plates for versatility or go for the 1 3/8" plates (may hair is fine but long - the GHDs 1" work fine but I'm dithering. OMG there's just to much choice and decision making!! |

Okay, I'm still kinda stuck on the whole Wet-Dry thing.
For those of you who have the T3 Wet-Dry, by using it directly on the wet hair does it make your hair seem really flattened to your head? I know that's what some people like, but for me, I don't have very thick hair, so I like at least just a little bit of volume! |

Hmm gotta say not keen on the wet/dry one - I'm not keen on the whole sizzling thing! I've been looking at the 'normal'T3.
I would imagine the wet/dry one would flatten your hair a bit more though. |

Lucia, same here! But I must say I'm intrigued by the idea of not having to blowdry!
The T3 ones I'm interested in are the 1" and the domed 3/4". So far, the info I've found says that both can be used for straightening AND for making waves and curls too! I'll probably go for one of those. They're pretty pricey, but there are some deals on Ebay so hopefully I'll find something!
Here's the official T3 HairArt site with a lot of info on the products for those of you interested!
Apparently the Featherweight T3 Blowdryer is supposed to be really good and well known also!

Honeydew, I saw the domed one today on a website and it is tempting, but its very narrow and my hairs pretty long so I may go for the 1 3/8" as it will be narrow enough to be versatile but wide enough to do the length!!
I don't know - choices choices! Sooo many products so little time!!! |

OMG Lucia, I know! Way too many decisions to be made! I've read up on flat irons so much these past few days and now I'm probably more confused than ever! So tempting! They're pricey, but I figure it's going to last for awhile, so it'll be worth it! and at least I won't be frying my hair (as much) as I probably am with my current one! |

Honeydew - That was my feeling especially as my dryer is a bit battered and over here they have an offer on that gets you the T3 iron and the dryer at £145!!! The dryers normally £65 and the iron £90+ depending on the size so it's mighty tempting - I may just go for it, I don't want to fry my hair and I'm addicted to my flat irons so anything that promises less damage has gotta be worth a go - especially with a 2yr warrenty!
Roll on payday!!! |

That sounds like a really good deal! So far, I've seen the blowdryer sell at the cheapest for US$165 and the flat irons go from US$130 up (and those prices are from ebay alone)! Sounds pretty good... I heard the blowdryer is supposed to be really highly rated by haircare professionals, plus it's really light too! I'm still considering the wet-dry one... I just want to try it and see how it works, that would save me so much time in the morning! Doesn't hurt that the irons have a 2 year warranty!
Let me know how you like them! |

Well I bit the bullet! I've just ordered the saver package from the UK/European T3 site (T3hair.com) - Its a good deal (honest!!) you get the flat iron, dryer and a free shampoo and conditioner plus free next day delivery (orders before 12pm - 2 day after 12pm) in the UK for £145. I ended up getting the 1" as I got on really well with the original GHD which is a 1" plate.
Can't wait!!!!
For info' - the 1" iron is seperately £91.50 even on offer (rrp £115.50)and the dryer £65 (on offer, rrp £76.99) |

ohhh that's exciting! I also caved and ordered the 1 3/8" T3 off of Sephora.com. They have a really good website for Canadian buyers! All brokerage fees and taxes are included in your total so apparently there are no hidden costs on delivery! Plus since my item was over $120 I get free s/h! In total, the flat iron cost me $214 Canadian plus no hassles when they deliver! So far I'm satisfied! |

hi everyone, this T3 flat iron seems a bit expensive to me, but i am a guy and i don't have really long hair. my hair is a bit long and sometimes i straighten it with a glat iron that i got from wal mart for 30 bucks canadian. it is nothing amazing but it does the job.
I also heard that flat irons with mirror plates are better than ceramic plates, is that true?
Another thing is that the cheap flat irons' plates are not 100% ceramic.

Well I got them the following day! It's too early to comment on the claims that they are less damaging than other products but so far this is what I think so far..
The dryer does dry much faster than my old battered ionic dryer (one I've had several years and one of the first out) this means you can reduce the power and heat which logically does reduce the likely hood of damage.
The T3's perform as well as my GHD's and again at a lower temperature - I started at 160c and went upto 180c to get the finish I wanted - the GHDs only had the one temp of 210c so again less heat for the same result.
I like the fact they come with their own heat resistant pouch which also doubles as a mat to put them on to stop you melting your vanity unit/dressing table!
So so far I'm pleased - will keep an eye on the ends of my hair and see if my stylist comments at my next visit!! |

Hi!
I LOVE mine!! Great results and little if any damage as you can have the temperature so much lower. (Love the dryer too!). |

do you think the wet to dry one is better or the normal 1 3/8 one? which seems less damaging?
Is it less damaging to straighten your hair with this or to blow dry your hair with a normal hair dryer? |
