Hello everyone,
I'm new and wanted to talk about a new beauty find.
My friend in NYC recommended a new line to me and was surprised they're "Canadian"
I'm a former Bobbi Brown user and recently used lines from Dr Hauschka and Jurlique, but tried out products from The Organic Make-up Company.
I haven't seen this line anywhere in Vancouver yet and ordered product online instead. The lipstick, exfoliator and face cream arrived yesterday and they all work really well. I am VERY HAPPY with their formulation as I think they're as pure as make-up can get. There's not many companies able to offer pure makeups these days.
I was surprised at how nice the lipstick finish was and it lasted long as well. As for the Exfoliator and Face Cream, the old saying "a little goes a long way" and its true to these products so far. I guess the plus for me is that the prices I paid we about 1/2 to 2/3 of the price I paid for Dr Hauschka and Jurlique.
Exfoliator really cleaned deep and I used a cotton swab to rub it in and a few drops of the face cream offered complete coverage.
Anyone else out there tried other products from this company yet?
As a Canadian, I am glad to see a Canadian company in finally able offer truly natural makeups.

Sorry, but I forgot to post the web address for The Organic Make-up Company,
www.organicmakeup.ca
I took a look at Integral Sense and they seem to wholesale only and could not accesswww.simplynaturalcosmetics.com at this time, but I remember getting Burt's Bees from them a long time ago.
Anyway, I'm planning to order some more skin care products from The Organic Make-up Company as they perform well so far.
I'll get some more make-up from Simply Natural instead. Thanks for the info!
Will keep everyone posted on how the other products perform. |

Wow, thank you so much for sharing!! I am always on the hunt for completely natural cosmetics and skincare. This stuff looks so pure, it's one of the best lines I've seen in terms of being completely natural. You might also want to check out Aubrey Organics. Their cosmetic line is sparse, but they have wonderful skincare and haircare products. Gabrielle and Ecco Bella have some all-natural products, but you really have to read the ingredients before purchasing because I've seen things like propyl-parabens inculded. |

you can always contact the wholesale place, they may know of someone locally, and sometimes wholesalers do bend the rules |

Jackie Chan, I purchased from the Organic Makeup Co one time and got a lipstick and the universal blush thats mauve in color. VERY NICE. First of all the first lipstick I received came as a cream in a metal tin. It didn't take long to harden up and I couldn't use it. I notified the company and they sent me a brand new lipstick in a tube. I think the first version in the tin was a proto type. Now the packaging looks a lot better. I really like the newer lipstick, strawberry jam. The blush is indeed highly pigmented and can be used a eye shadow, blush and as lip tint with gloss over it. The company also sent me samples of soap and moisturizer which really surprised me. I'm quite impressed with this company and like the products so far. |

The Organic Makeup Company stuff sounds really good. Quite a great discovery, thanks!
I went to the link you gave and they use MOSTLY ORGANIC content and some natural ingredients to offer a true vegan line. I haven't seen their products here yet, but will try some of the products online.
Their website itself is quite a read. Its rare, but they appear to know their stuff and are really open to its visitors. They disclose all their ingredients without hiding it like other brands and I recommend you check out this link,
http://www.organicmakeup.ca/CA/switchtoorganic.asp
They don't post radical or controversial stuff, but they're quite honest and truthful as it all makes sense. They review everything from stretch marks through to harmful ingredients in cosmetics and why we should avoid them.
You're right about the prices as they're a lot less expensive than lines I am used to using like Martina Gebhardt and Logona. I hate to say this, but their formulation looks to be better too after I compared the ingredient labels to what I have here. |

Hi SusieQ,
WOW, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
Awhile ago, I had problems with some of the products I bought online from one of the other all natural brands. Could not remember whether it was Earth's Beauty or Honeybee as the eyeshadow changed color on face after I sweated a bit, but they never replied to my email and this really annoyed me. I guess they prioritize the ones they need to reply to.
By the way, check out this cutie-pie here,
http://www.organicmakeup.ca/CA/biosMichael.asp
You'll be surprised when you see this. I'll just say that their management team looks really friendly.
I'll definately give them a try and am more comfortable after hearing your feedback.
Thanks! |

I've tried most of Suncoat's stuff, but they did not perform very well and they're not a vegan line either.
I must admit however that their nail polish is good.
With the feeback I've heard and researched, the organic makeup company's stuff seems to work well and the PLUS is that they have complete makeup and skin care lines. |

Oh Tinkerbell, thank you for saying something about the Suncoat cosmetics. I think I'll re-consider purchasing. Customer service really is great at organic cosmetics.ca as evidenced by the replacement of the lipstick. I might also add that after 2 weeks of receiving what I had ordered, Lori Stryker emailed for feedback. Thats proof enough for me that this is a cosmetic line that has integrity. By the way thanks for that link on Michael. Cutie pie is right. How amusing!! |

SusieQ,
Nice to know the Organic Makeup Co cares enough about their clients. Nice to know there are still some companies who care rather than "claim" to care!
What kind of moisturiser did they send you? I checked on their website and they have a face lotion and a hand lotion.
How did the soap and moisturiser work on you? |

I've been looking for a sheer lip stain that is shiney or tacky. Has anyone tried their lip gloss? (or have a good recommendation. |

I found a really great lip shimmer stick yesterday by Burts Bees. I bought the Rhubarb shade which is a golden pink. Its not heavy but a sheer tint of color. I just love this product and its become my new favorite. I'm tempted to try the other shades. |

Well Tinkerbell, they sent me just a tiny piece of the lavender and lemon balm soap just enough for about 3 or 4 uses and a 1 oz sample of the balanced moisturizer for the face. I liked the soap and the moisturizer did a very good job of keeping my skin hydrated all day or all night. It even worked well around the eye area too. More good products from the organic cosmetic company. |

Sharky, my friend in New York who introduced me to the Organic Make-up Company has ordered their lip gloss and is very happy with it. She's also ordered a few eyeshadows and pigment is good too, but she is waiting for some additional colors that will be launched soon.
She said the foundation works well and is waiting for the mascaras to come out. She said the customer service people informed her that these will be available in a few months.
SusieQ, happy to see the face cream worked really well for you too.
Anyone tried their Athletic Body Butter??? |

I haven't heard anything about the body butter, but I read in another forum that the Facial Oil helps reduce some wrinkles,
"....I started to use the Organic Make-up Company's facial oil in the evening and found that after a few days it helped reduce my wrinkles and it works well in conjunction with their face cream which is not greasy and absorbs well." |

I noticed this line when I was at a makeup job in Toronto as a few days ago as I ran out of some product for a movie shoot.
I was able to look and test most of the line at a professional makeup artist supply shop that is a part of Complections International - a special effects and makeup school.
I agree with most of the feedback people have posted. Most of the products apply well and the good thing is that my face smelled nice after an application.
A few of the students from surrounding makeup schools were there and looked at the product as well and the young 20 somethings seemed to take an interest to it as they didn't realise natural makeups exist. How jaded we become when we are flooded by advertisers.
This line as well as other high end retail lines like Stila, Estee Lauder and MAC don't nearly perform as well as the makeups used in entertainment. We usually use very heavy makeups as actors and actresses need to be in the makeup for 8-16 hours a day and requires a flawless look.
Needless to say, the Organic Makeup Comp products work as well as top retail brands as I too questioned its performance until I tried it.
Also at the prices they were offering it at Complections, it was very inexpensive and priced way below what Stila and MAC charges.
I can't wait to see more affordable lines come to California as most natural lines here are very pricey and performs as well as this line. |

Which suncoat products have you tried? I am very tempted by their eyeshadow and lipshimmer. Any feedback for these items?
Thanks! |

For Suncoat, I have tested all of their products. Their best is still their nail polish.
As for the makeup line, here's my comments,
- the color selection is okay, "but" they use a lot of micas and minerals; which I don't really like for a purity issue...though
- they're not vegan
- finish is not as refined as other makeup lines
The makeup is not that great, but I guess you get what you pay for from Suncoat.
I was able to try out some of The Organic Make-up Company's products as I found some locally here at a professional makeup supplier. A lot of the stuff there was sold out, but I recommend you try this line as the finish is "exquisite". I have been told that there will be more eyeshadow colors coming up for sale soon and can't wait for their mascara, so keep your 'eyes' open.
If you are really interested in The Organic Make-up Co's products, send a message to "kenneth_e_jameson (at) yahoo.com.au" and the 20% DISCOUNT CODE will be sent to you which you and others can use. A friend forwarded me an email with the code and a message stating that Amazon.com has requested the line and products will be listed there next week. |

I actually emailed them about the other eyeshadow shades, and they actually responded to me (sorry am not used to getting email responses hehe) and said they will be available in a few weeks! I don't like the shades they currently have, but the new ones ALL look fabulous!
Do you mind telling me why you don't like the micas and minerals for purity reasons? I thought they were ok but now you're giving me second thougts!
Thanks for the info about the discount code. Is the kenneth from the email an employee of the company? |

Chimera,
This may sound a bit contraversial, but I have never been a big fan of minerals in general and there's a "real" reason behind this and its just common sense.
Though minerals are natural, they are from the "ground" like petroleum jelly which can also contain some harmful byproducts that can effect your skin and your overall well being.
Now, I realise that makeups require minerals to get the finished product we want, but the less the better.
The other thing that needs to be considered is how the mineral is processed (as a raw ingredient) and how small the molecules become or else they can go straight into the blood stream and cause long term health risks. There's been contraversy about Titanium Dioxide as some researchers have said it can cause cancer if it gets into the system, "but" it also depends on how small the molecule is processed.
For example, some blush powders and concealers will seem extremely velvety smooth and that is because the ingredients have been processed to become very small molecules to achieve this. On the surface for application its great, but in doing so, the molecules can be small enough to be absorbed by the skin and into your bloodstream.
I like what The Organic Make-up Company has done as they've formulated their products bearing a few things in mind,
- maximize the purity of each item
- take into consideration how each ingredient can effect the end user and how large mineral molecules are so that they don't get absorbed
The second point is important. For example, they use organic corn starch which does not clog pores like talc (which 99% of the cosmetic companys uses) does and some research has shown that talc may also be the cause of some forms of cancers. Currently, I see only 2 or 3 makeup companies using organic corn starch in their products at this time. Also, though The Organic Make-up Company uses minerals, they take into consideration their size before using it in their makeups to help ensure that the molecules are too big to be absorbed into your system.
Take a look at their article on this,
http://www.organicmakeup.ca/CA/titaniumdioxide.asp
As for micas, I have read that many makeup companies do not properly process these and just add them to the makeup as is. Without the proper processing, the color will change on your face as it will react with the chemistry of your sweat. Think of steel that rusts on a car and that what basically happens - not as drastic of course, but it reacts the same way.
The email address I gave you is my girlfriend in Australia who got the promotional discount code from The Organic Makeup Company. |

This line looks very intriguing - especially since its Canadian (yippee!).
However when I visited the company website, I was disappointed in the very limited colour selection. I am a cool-toned PPP, and absolutely nothing appealed to me (shades all looked extremely warm).
Can anyone comment on what the colours are like and how the makeup feels when applied? Thanks! |
