Just wondered what hobbies all of you have
In my spare time when Im not on the the internet or reading I love sewing, I hand sewed all my and my mother-in-law's cushion covers and curtains. I would love to learn to dress make, I can modify old skirts and tops. I also plan to look into those jewelry making kits.
Am forever baking cakes and bread to keep up with family demand and I love nothing better than pottering in the garden and growing my own seeds.
The boyf loves to have a good fire in the garden and why is it the males ultimate relaxation is washing and pollishing the car!!!!!!

Hi Rosebud - Good idea for a thread!
My first love (apart from OH of course!) - I have horses - I love spending time at the yard with them just pootling about doing chores etc as well as riding and generally looking after them. (I can while away hours!).
I also like to sew a bit but don't have time really - I make hand stitched Teddy Bears and I like cooking too.
I also keep my'hand in' doing some hair/beauty treatments on friends now I don't do it fulltime.

In my spare time I love to crochet! My grandma taught me at a young age and although she's been gone since 1989 (I miss her everyday) she would be so proud that I still create beautiful masterpieces with my hook and yarn! I recently made my niece a blanket and pillow for her 10th birthday, which she just adored...she also wants to learn to crochet like her auntie Donna
Now I'm teaching myself to make thread doilies, they are challenging at times but I'm so proud when I get one completed. I just made one for my mother-in-law for mother's day and she loved it! |

What I like to do in my spare time:I love to cook,I take care of my skin , I exercise a lot, I go for walks with my dog,I clean the house, I read a good book...oooooh a lot of things, like taking care of my mind, actually healing my mind, gardenning.
I am reading now a book about how to focus only on positive thougts instead of having negative thougts.Very interesting!!!!Thay said that you have to work your mind like every other part of your body and to find in every negative aspect of your life something positive.I am without a job for two years, so I am worried about my savings, but not too much.It is the first time in my life when I stopped working(was not my choice)and I looked and smelled the roses. As bad as it was at the beginning, I think it was the best thing what hapenned to me.Now, I think I am strong enough to go on.It is very strange how bad goes into good at the end. However, believe me, hapiness is a state of mind and not a destination and also a choice of leaving your life.

I Scrapbooking! Right now I have about three going at once. Scrapbooking is so much more exciting then putting your pictures in a photo album. Unfortunately, it can end up costing me quite a bit. I love to put pretty papers as backgrounds. I try to journal on my pages so I don't forget what exactly was happening when the picture was taken.
I have made each of my adult children a Heritage Album. After much research and asking for pictures I have been able to go back four generations. My hope is my children will always cherish them. When my grandchildren become adults they can alway see and read about their ancestors. My daughter and daughter-in-law are also big into this hobby. My grandchildrens baby albums are gorgeous.
A few years ago I was a Creative Memories Consultant (just to support my habit). Now, after Scrapbooking for several years I teach it at our local Adult Ed.
For anyone who doesn't know about Scrapbooking this will give you an idea: http://www.creativememories.com/ Where I live craft stores selling Scrapbook supplies are all over the place. |

I work on finishing my “novel.” Actually, I guess it’s more of a work of fan fiction....whatever you want to call it, it’s a labor of love .
When I was a teenager, I read a “young adult fiction” book that, after completion, haunted my thoughts off and on over the years. Last year, I was finally motivated to search the internet, trying to locate a cheap, used copy of this book to replace my well-worn, dogearred copy that one of my nieces purloined. What I discovered were used copies of the book selling for upwards of $1,000USD along with the news that the author had actually written a sequel to the book, which prompted me to move heaven and earth to locate a copy that I could own or borrow, I didn’t care which, all I wanted was to READ it!! In the process, I discovered that there were dozens of others out there who, like me, had read the book as teens and had been obsessed with the story and/or characters ever since.
Since that time, the author arranged (at her own expense) for reprints of these books to become available and I bought my copies and have read them again many times. Unfortunately, the sequel to the book didn’t resolve many of the loose ends to the satisfaction of all the die-hard fans, and we began pressuring the author to write a 3rd and final book. She declined, but challenged us to write our own version of “Book 3” that she would post on her website, so that’s exactly what I’ve did – and am now working on my chapter 8, with over 75 “subscribers” anxiously awaiting me to complete the next installment! I’ve always loved to write, and am not modest enough to be ashamed to admit that I have a gift for it and now a little of my work is out there for the world to read and critique....
So, anyway, that’s what I do in my spare time!
Carrie
P.S. Okay, I just read back through the above paragraphs and realized that I sound like one of those Star Wars goobers who have had time to memorize and recite all six films word-for-word because they’ve never had a date in their life and will likely never get laid! Oh well, at least I know that I’m not alone in my obsession with my beloved story and its characters – there’s at least one hundred others out there who are just as sad as I am!!
P.P.S. I also fool around making skincare products in my sparetime, too! And act as personal shopper for select EDS members across the pond! Oh, wait, I also make jewelry (necklaces/bracelets/earrings)!! I guess I’m more well-rounded than I originally thought.... |

Carrie,
What kind of business are you in now? If you posted it at one time sorry...I missed it. Anyway, sound to me like you are in the wrong business. You could have your own skin care company.
A writer You actually have a book out? Please let us know where we can get our hands on a copy. |

I don’t do anything impressive. I’m a systems analyst with the Information Technology section of the TX Attorney General Child Support Division – I help keep the computer systems running that allow our workers to go after deadbeat parents.
I’m sorry, I must have misspoke/mis-written. I don’t actually have a *book* published – at least not yet, anyway! I meant that a couple of the chapters I wrote that continue where my favorite book left off have been ‘published’ on the author’s personal website....
I keep saying that as soon as I win the lottery, I’m going to quit my job so I can pursue all of my hobbies full-time! |

Fun thread!
I love to do artwork - drawing and painting, cartoons etc. After neglecting these interests for a long time, I'm getting back into it. I would love to somehow do this professionally. I like doing other artsy fartsy things too: making jewelry, giftwrapping (I have a wierd ribbon/wrapping paper fetish).
If I had more money I'd be travelling all the time - I love travel. Just seeing where other people are from on these boards excites my imagination!
For now I try to travel by reading lots. I read pretty much anything I can get my hands on: fiction, biography, travel, humour etc. I spend a great deal of time lurking in bookstores. I love coming home with a big bag of books almost as much as a bag of new clothes!
I adore animals, and volunteer at a local animal shelter. I can't have a pet of my own right now (landlords grrrr.. ), so this is my way of getting a critter fix. It brings a lot of happiness into my life - spending time romping with dogs never fails to make me laugh |

Well my spare time is pretty scarce at the moment... I've just started a second job to help support the "princesita hasn't seen her boyfriend in 3 months fund"! Stupid me went and fell head over heels for a guy who lives in the US so until we sort something more permenant out (like a big rock on my left hand ) we're stuck going back and forth whenever we can afford it. Blah Long distance relationships suck!!!
Aside from travelling to see the man (so far I've been to Hawaii 5 times!) and surfing the net, I spend my spare time cooking, going to the gym, learning to speak Spanish, going to the movies, taking photos. I would like to learn to sew but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. |

The book was called “Easy Connections” by Liz Berry. Here’s the link to her website, where you can read the story summary and where Liz has posted the first chapter: http://lizberrybooks.com/id24.htm.
The sequel to the story is called “Easy Freedom,” and Liz has posted the first three chapters of it on her site, as well: http://lizberrybooks.com/id25.htm. And while you’re there, perhaps you’ll stumble across the “Third Book” page were some of Liz’s fans have submitted chapters for the third book to continue the storyline....Even now that I'm an adult, I re-read these stories a couple times per year! |

Unfortunately for my credit card my hobby is Cardmaking. I adore it!! Winnie I know all about the * spam alert * with Scrapbooking - I have just got my friend into it!
I will get round to scrapbooking all my photos one day!
I am lucky enough to supply a couple of local galleries with my cards so it makes me a very small bit of pocket money. I have won a few competions also, so I guess I am fairly good at it!
Carrie, would love to see your name in print on the cover of a wonderful book - what a star you are!!

Katee
It's not only good for your skin, you also lose calories.
I like to mend my garden, planting new plant variety every week, it's very calming. The craziest I've done lately was it was 90+ degrees in temp, with high humidity and I'm out in my garden digging and planting, then it rained the next day and the day after and the day after.. |

In my spare time, I love doing local musical theatre. I was a music theatre major in college, then switched to communications when the "what the heck do I do with music theatre degree? set in.
Love to sing, was in a band for many years, and its something that I can never get out of my system. Singing makes me happy. It's theraputic.
We're doing a show this fall called "Broadway Rocks" and its a revue of all shows with a rock-n-roll vibe to them (Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, etc.). I was so happy to be asked to be in this.
Also, love doing make-ups for people! Did a couple of proms these past couple of weeks. Loved it!

I have a pony too, (she's 14.3hh so I don't think can call her a horse!) I've had her over 8 years now, she 25 but had such an easy life she hasn't a thing wrong with her *touch wood* and acts more like a 5 year old, so I still get plenty of riding in.
Also cars are my passion, track days, shows etc
Food, I love eating! And cooking when I get a chance (my other half likes cooking, sometimes have to fight over who will cook dinner!)

Wow, what an interesting thread!
I love to eat, cooking not so much, we eat out a lot but not fast food, (it really adds up to eat out, ugh).
We have quite a few pets, two pigmy goats, two potbellied pigs, two dogs and a cat. When we walk our trail on the 10 acres, everyone comes with us, it's quite the sight!
Our 4 year old son keeps me so busy I hardly have time to read anymore but I try. I love video games and we all play them together.
Obviously, I'm obsessed with make-up and finding some sort of skincare regime to get my finicky troubled skin under control, I guess that goes without saying!
I sell and buy on eBay alot lately so that's a hobby too I suppose. I just had my first credit card chargeback, she says it was an unauthorized purchase.
We used to travel a lot too but since building our home out here 10 years ago, we mostly hang out, we don't feel the need to 'get away' when being home is so peaceful.
Here's my personal website:

What a fun forum! I totally love this place.
Spare time? What's that? Just kidding. I work full time for the home office of a major retailer (not sure if I'm supposed to say where for purposes of the forum... but let's just say they start with JC and the last part ryhmes with Kenney).
On the weekends my husband and I like to go to movies and go shopping. (Yes, I actually have a husband that loves to shop... what are the odds?)
When I'm at home I love to read... mostly mystery novels... esp. ones set in New Orleans. I'm totally obsessed with that city. Love to read about it, visit it and I even have our guest room decorated in New Orleans theme. We also have two kitty cats that are very sweet and very spoiled rotten. I like entertaining them (or rather letting them entertain me... they are very silly). I would love to have a dog too but we live in an apartment and don't really have the space for one right now. I'll wait until we move into a house.
I also work on stained glass when I have the time, altough the weather has been too warm here lately... I have to work in my garage right now because I haven't a work room in our apartment.
My hubby and I also enjoy having "game nights" with our friends where we just have everyone over to play card or board games and have a lot of fun!
Anyway... I have really enjoyed reading everyone else's comments. Keep the wonderful advice coming, Ladies!
