I know that BP has worked for many people to clear them up and it has even worked for me before, but not without burning and itching skin. I am now convinced that it has contributed to cysts on my cheeks because it dried and irritated them so much that nothing underneath the skin could come out which resulted in cysts. Since I have stopped using acne medicine... my cheek cysts have dramatically diminished. Not to mention I don't have scaly, red, itchy, flaky skin to overmoisturize anymore. Sorry that this is more of a rant than anything else... for those it works for... I hope it continues to do a great job for you, but as for me... I'm done with it altogether.
Any thoughts?

What % of bp were you using? I found out I was allergic to 10% bp the bad way. Red, itchy skin that turned into brown burnt looking skin. Teh brown patch eventually fall off and the discoloration took months to fade.
I can use 2.5% bp with no reaction but anything higher is bad. |

I was using 2.5%. My skin actually got more sensitive as time went on. I once used Sage 10% Miracle Zit on my cheeks and felt like I was being burned with a cattle prod. It made my whole face swell up. This last time I tried the 2.5%, I had the same reaction. I also cannot use AHA or BHA for the same reason. |

weird...I can use up to 7.5% BP but can't even tolerate 1% salicylic acid
guess we're all completely different when it comes to our skin |

My skin hated BP as well, I was only using 2.5% and my skin just burnt and flaked off and then the pimples seemed to go hard and stay under the surface for weeks and weeks. Never again!!! |

oh no! this is scaaring me. i just started using the b kamins 5% bp acne gel, i got it as a sample.
according to acne.org, it takes 8 weeks to clear using bp and there will be breakouts.
so far, my skin is not burning wahtsoever, and i'm trying it out on one cheek first. but therei s not yet any improvement. does make it a tee bit redder tho.
when you guys had those adverse reactions, was it immeadiately or after a while? if its immediately, then i should be safe, if not... im scared! :s |

My skin can tolerate BP but it does nothing for me other than drying me out. On the other hadn glycolic acid and salicylic acid work a treat! ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |
