I personally use "sugaring" to remove unwanted hair. It's similar to waxing but it's water soluble. When you do it enough times you'll notice that the hair growth slows down and in some cases, you end up with areas that hair free. |

Most of the big lotion brands have a version that's supposed to inhibit growth. Just look in your drugstore lotion aisle for hair-minimizing, or slows growth, etc on the label. I used the Jergen's one when it first came out, and after using it every day for several weeks--the growth was somewhat less.
Another thing that helps (but again, the effect is not drastic, and you have to use the stuff regularly to see results) is Aveeno Shave Minimizing shave gel. I really like this gel--it's the only one I've bought for the past 3 years. It smells nice too--kind of like their lotions.
Also, in the DIY thread, Carekate has recipes for a shave minimizing shave oil and body oil, which are next on my list of concoctions to try. |

I love the Jergens shave minimizing lotion. I've been using it for ~3 years now. I first started using it on my legs and noticed my hairs growing back slower and less coarse. I'm asian so my leg hairs were very black & coarse. I was very pleased. I was using the lotion every day after my shower.
Now, I notice my leg hairs are very fine and sparser. Love that. They're actually soft. I don't bother to shave in the winter and the hairs don't really bother my boyfriend. I don't use the lotion every day anymore.
I just started using the lotion on my armpits & bikini area, again everyday application. It's awesome for my armpits. I don't have too many armpit hairs to begin with, so I normally pluck them. Yes ouch, but you get used to the pain I guess. Anyhoo, after starting the lotion ~3 wks ago, my armpit hairs are not really there anymore. I still have the really fine hairs that noone could see unless they have their nose right up to it. Those don't bother me. The coarse black ones haven't grown back and it's been 2 weeks since I plucked. Amazing!
As for my bikini area, I still have hairs but they're definitely softer and take longer to grow out after a shave.
Anyway, that's my comment. Give it a try. |
