I've found heaven; this site is fantastic! I'm a total makeup/skin care junkie, too afraid to tell even my closest friends how addicted I am to try all the new products, trying to find the perfect one (but I'm sure my overflowing drawers are a give-away), and now I find others who share this quest. (sorry to get gushy, just so excited!)
I've learned so much by reading everyone's notes, but don't know where to start? Very open to suggestions. (By the way, did go to the MD site for samples).
Recently maturing skin (just turned 50) but young at heart. Fair, combination skin and occ breakouts. Breakout easily with overly rich creams.
Been reading everyone's favorite products; but don't know where to start.
Just tried a new line, Alba, which is fun, but not sure it'll do any treatment except to smell wonderful.
Thanks for suggestions. |

Give me nice skin.... (I know, a given).
While my skin is becoming drier (after years of oily skin, its nice to be able to wear makeup more than a few hours), I've noticed that many moisturizers are too rich and I break out.
And fine lines are just starting (thanks again to oily skin) but I'd like to slow those down.
After a facial, I bought many of the dermalogica products, but while they are 'ok', realize it was the massage that probably gave my skin that glow.
I recently tried a microderma facial, liked the results, but would prefer an 'at home' product. Tried L'Oreal's kit and it was ok, too. But hoping for "the glow".
Any suggestions? |

Well you sound like a potential Dr Hauschka user to me
Seriously though the cleanser suits all skin types and smells out of this world and with having skin that is on the drier side, the rose day cream would probably suit you and it is not too heavy, Have a look on EDS |

For a *glow* I would highly recommmend a Vitamin C serum. Vivier 10 is popular on this site and is gentle enough to start with. (you can look at it on EDS) JB C&C also seems to be getting good reviews, but is more expensive. The Vit C will definitely help you to achieve brighter, clearer, more even skin. In time, it will also help increase collagen production, helping with your fine lines. Another product which you might be interested in the ADCE by Janson Beckett. This product (which you can look at on EDS) contains a number of actives to help relax lines and firm the face. It also receives excellent reviews!
I am a huge fan of the IS Clinical line and use their c serums. I and others have had excellent results. This could be another line to look into. There is a thread all about it...

Welcome to the forum!
I would suggest that you investigate the option of using a vitamin C serum as well. It can even out skin tone and does give that glowy healthy look. It's also good as it reverses (some of) and prevents sun damage
I am also a big fan of the Dr Hauschka range, particularly their cleansing cream. It is superb at cleaning out the pores and gently exfoliating the skin without stripping it. |

and if you liked the microdermabrasion and want a good home version look at Epidermx.
I would never tell anyone either. I'd be horrified if people knew who I was. Really you could blackmail me. People I live with are as far as it goes and they think you're nuts. That's why this board's so lovely. |

I just have to recommend the Alphaderma line by Janson-Beckett. The Alphaderma CE pretty much got rid of most of my fine lines. It is not heavy at all, full of vitmains, and many people do not have to use a seperate moisturizer after it (although I do). Use the AHA Skin Prep before it for the best results. You can try a 5-day sample pack of the Alphaderma line for under $20 on their website: www.janson-beckett.com
I agree with the others on a Vitamin C Serum. Again, Janson-Beckett makes an awesome one. I have been using the C&C Serum for about 10 days, and must say my skin has a new glow to it.
And lastly, cleansing/exfoliation. In my opinion Dermalogica makes some incredible cleansers. And their Daily Microfoliant is AWESOME. I will NEVER be without it. It is my holy grail!!!
So that is just my suggestion. I think you are on the right start by getting as many samples as you can. I know you can buy samples of Dermalogica on E-bay. That way you can try a bunch of the products and see if anything in that line appeals to you.
Good luck, and have fun....and don't forget to some back and review the products you try for us.

Wow, thank you all for your suggestions! I f/u'd on both threads and asked for samples (after the NV Perricone expense and disappointment).
I do love this site; so many junkies just like me. I've found home.
Time to share my latest two new products:
Masque: Aveda tourmaline charged radiance masque. An Oprah's favorite, I tried and love it. Its creamy white, no real smell (maybe a very faint flowery/herb) and dries quickly. But the difference in this product is its gentliness, washes easily off but leaves the skin so nice, a little firmer and pores are tighter. As my skin matures, I've found clay based masques a little too drying; this one is excellent.
The other is makeup; I'm so picky about foundation; wanting that perfect, unmadeup but fab skin. I had so many brands finding most too heavy or the tints didn't cover some of the tiny spots.
Then, was staring at Clinique counter (the junkie in me) and this was my old favorite (they had a water based foundation that I used to LOVE for oily skin, but too drying now) and I tried:
Perfectly real makeup teint. (shade 14; fair/med) and wow! Its wonderful! I use a brush now (new trick for any application) and the finish is fantastic! It doesn't settle into any small lines (like ID, minerals could do) and covers just enough without looking thick. Its suppose to be a 'new tech' that 'reflects' , but whatever, I love it. Been using it for about a week, no breakouts and that smooth, clean finish that I love. I hope anyone else with combo skin, looking for "sheer coverage" (oxymoron?) likes it, too. I do suggest trying the color by natural light ( I left the counter with the mirror and walked to the door of the store) and I have a brush that is very nice and I feel it keeps the product cleaner.
So I hope you all can love these two as I do!
And thanks again for all your suggestions! I hope to get those AlphaDerma/Epidemx/vit C samples soon and will share. Vanessa |

Would you like to be my "pretester"?javascript:emoticon('')

Pretester? Sure, I think I'd make a good guinea pig...... I use to think that as 'advanced' as we've come, why couldn't there be a great skin care line that is full of really good products.. then realized that everyone is SO different and what works for one....
Meanwhile, to try AlphaDerma will cost about forty dollars and a pack of epidermx trial sizes about twenty. No samples for these... ouch.
So asking readers to let me know ARE THEY WORTH IT? Or should I go straight to a Vit C serum?????
Help, Vanessa: |

I should say a lot of users have recently switched to the Janson Beckett C&C and prefer it, but it's a little more pricey. See thread below. "I just got my........"
I only got mine yesterday so I can't really comment yet. |

Good website! Thanks
They do have some good deals/combo packs.
The Epidermx can be matched with "Silkia"; have you tried that?
But can't find your Cellular C; theirs is a Vit C firming lotion...yours better???
But thank you for the 'string'; Vanessa |

Alas, the Silkia's nice too. You'll find a lot of good reviews of that. A bottle lasts a long, long time though. Still got my small bottle from October or so.
It's exactly the same product actually Cellularskinrx C+ Firming Serum (12% stabilized Vitamin C) - I didn't give you the full name. They seem to just sell a few Cellularskin products on this site.
You're welcome. I'm a small budget purchaser so I have to get cheap but effective as far as possible, usually, but not always |

Thank you Molly
I did it; such a nut, but with your encouragement (like I only needed a tiny push) I ordered the Epidermx with Silkia and the Vit C. What the heck... I was talking with a good friend who admitted she spent $135 for some Vit C serum from a salon last month.. didn't know the name AND doesn't care for it. So I'm justifying my $75 purchase (with free shipping) as an investment for better skin. Thats actually less than a facial when you add in the tip...
SO NOW; can't wait for the products to arrive.
Quick question:
Do I use the Silkia under or over the Vit C???
Thank you again Molly

OK, time to share my 'beauty secrets'
My best is ...sleep. What a difference a good nights sleep can make; but I know, this is a given.
(so won't mention the beauty benefits of a nightly cup of tea (vary green or Earl Grey, but recently read Oolong tea is fantastic for the skin).
And the next best... laughter, really! Good laugh with friends is the best! (some evidence that it increases your immune system); glass of wine can improve the laugher.
I use a variety of cleaners depending on my mood; so if broken out, I use AcneFree, very much like ProActive, but you can buy it at Walmart for about fifteen dollars; my daughter's college group use it and passed it to me. Or I use Dermalogica; just forcing myself to try to finish the small bottle as its just 'ok'...but my latest gift from my organic girlfriend was a travel pack of Alba Hawaiian products, and the pineapple cleanser smells so good.
Then I scrub; currently using "Neutrogena's Deep Clean Gentle Scrub", again what the college girls are using to keep breakouts down. I think I like Benefits scrub a bit better but hoping the Epidermx works best (just ordered).
Toners tend to be boring..sorry, or dry me out, but occ I will use the Dermalogica protection spray, and this is my favorite product from their line. I am very interested in the asperin toner and may make some; thanks to you.
Moisture; either Neutrogena's oil free, or Alba's Jasmine and Vit E; smells soooo good and doesn't break me out. I actually ordered a few of their travel pack of products (for under ten dollars!) for friends. Its so inexpensive I do worry... good grief; but its been refreshing. Feel like I'm in Hawaiia on vacation when using it.
But mostly blessed with oily skin... which I hated to pieces when I was twenty. My best friend uses extra virgin olive oil at bedtime and swears by it... sparingly.
So I'm always on the outlook for hard working products. As we all want decent products for the money. What is incredable to me, is not recognizing half the products on the EDS store! And I'm a junkie who starks fine dept store makeup counters.........
By the way; any over the top favorite mascaras???? I keep going back to Maybelline's "Discovery" as even the more expensive ones tend to clump, smear, or look Tammy Baker-y. I like the natural look but great lashes....
Thanks again for everyone's input! (Lori too!)

Hi Vanessa,
I enjoyed sending you off shopping in my early hours. I'm an insomniac so I need all the beauty help I can get . You're very easily lead, it's going to be nightmare for you here if you hang around.
The order is Vit C first, then Silkia (just a few drops patted in)
The Silkia is especially good after using the Epidermx at night. Just that, no C or anything, Molly |

Hi Molly, so am I (up all night). Besides, its quietier and no interruptions.
Yes, I had read many reviews and yours just toppled me over (just needed the excuse) to order!
Besides, have been desperate for a good skin care line.
Thanks for all your suggestions,
Sheep/ I mean, Vanessa |
