I am using Janson & Beckett C&C Serum and sunscreen (of the same make) at spf 25...........now that my skincare regime is okay.......i am finding that my acne scars from years and years ago are more prominent these days..they never used to be in the past..........

Is there anything extra i could be doing to make the marks less prominent..........even when i apply powder........you can visibly see the marks.........

I've tried prologene gel for a very long time....about 1 year......it only helps on fading pigmented scars.........not 'pitted' (unpigmented) scars.............just like chicken pox scars like craters..........but without the pigmentation in the scar.......if you know what i mean...........

karina,

I think the best would probably be to visit a dermatologist and get a professional microdermabrasion or laser therapy done.

Obagi is supposed to be good for scaring, but I'm not sure on pitting. I have no experience with it so I don't know much about it, sorry.

thanks for that lianne.........i went for microdermabrasion........it cost £75 just for the first treatment and the therapist said it might not get rid of the pitted scars.......just make the scars a bit more faint...and that it would take about 10 treatments or so......i was not prepared to pay £750 especially since after the first treatment it didn't seem intensive enough.....as for a dermatologist.......my doctor will not refer me to one......he thinks i'm being paranoid..............

I don't know how much this will help, but this is what I've done for my marks. I, too, found continual facials, peels and dermabrasion expensive but they really didn't do much in the long run. So I switched to makeup (guess I gave up).
I started by using Lauren Hutton's disc in that she has a variety of concealers with a brush and I noticed I could have all my scars 'disappear' with careful application! Now, most of the time, I don't have the time for that kind of coverup, but found if I use a small brush to smooth on the makeup (current favorite is Clinique's perfectly real makeup/ not thick or heavy at all, but covers well) This makeup is light but 'smooths' out my marks.
Maybe you could try to at the counter or get a sample to try. Good luck! Oh, and a light dusting of loose powder will not only 'set' the makeup, but covers a bit more, too.

I don't know if they're accurate, but at the derm's office I see these before and after pictures of people using the Obagi system and a lot of people featured have pronounced crater-like scarring that looks phenomonally better in the after pic. Maybe that's something to take with a grain of salt, but I'd cast my vote for giving Obagi a chance. Smile

KARINA - Have you considered seeing a plastic surgeon about using a filler like Zyderm (collagen) or Restylane? If the injection sites aren't in a very dynamic part of the face, i.e. around the mouth or eyes, the filler won't degrade as quickly and will plump up those depressions for several months.

It's not inexpensive, but considering what skin care products, peels, laser and microdermabrasion treatments cost, the price isn't necessarily prohibitive.

Skin bio's copper peptides are supposed to be very effective at removing acne scarring, but it takes time. Might be worth checking out though. They are at skinbio.com (I think that's the right address)

too bad the doctor won't give you a referal. In canada you ask for it and get it. I think it all depends on the counties medical plan. I know englands medical plan isn't that great. my grandpa pays a ton for all her meds.

KARINA - FYI - My plastic surgeon charges me about $350 (US) when I've had 3-4 depressions filled. It lasts at least 6 months. The cost is for a whole syringe of filler and it can be kept for later use if all of the contents aren't injected.

KARINA - I have 3-4 depressions filled (not regularly though). The only one that really needs it is a spot on my chin (below the corner of my mouth) where I had a bad cold sore in my adolescence. As I've gotten older (I'm 53) and my skin is less plump, this scar has become apparent! Another spot I have injected is on my cheekbone where I constantly had a blackhead in the SAME PORE for a few years. Again, with age there's now a slight depression from having picked at it years ago. A third area I have filled is the top of one nasal fold which is a bit longer than the one on the other side. The only reason I bother with the lesser marks is that the price is generally "per syringe" of filler. I've done it about 6 times (when I've been in an EXTRA-NEUROTIC mood).

Lips are extremely sensitive and having them injected is quite painful, even with the help of anaesthetic cream. Because of the dynamism of the mouth, the injectible breaks down much more rapidly so the effect is very fleeting. I've had the doctor use up what's left over in the syringe to fill my upper lip a bit. It isn't really worth the pain for 2-3 months of a little extra fullness. Next time, I'll ask if he'll just save the leftover filler and not bother trying to use it all up at one time. I don't know if all doctors (or even mine) do this, but I've read that it can be done for people who routinely resort to using fillers.

If you ever go the injectible route, read up on the various sorts. Some cause "granulation" -- tiny bumps under the skin. Unfortunately, the ones that don't cause problems generally break down quicker.

I have a beautiful niece who suffers from an extreme case of cystic acne. She has some deep scars (thankfully mainly on her chest and back, but one deep one on her face). Because of this, I've tried to find out how to treat the scarring and for anything VERY deep, it seems injectibles are the only solution. But as others have said, there are things a doctor can do to refine scarred skin. I'm not in a position to know if any over-the-counter products can help much.

I will try and find out in UK the cost of the treatment.......type of fillers.......if they can use the left over filler for the next session........etc..........and weigh up all the pros and cons.......and think about it..............it sounds to me that you are really happy with the results.......otherwise why would you go back a 2nd, 3rd or 4th time............

thanks for all the information....

Please let me know if you have had any success in resolving your scars, I have some chickenpox scars one in particular on the centre of my forehead.. Crying or Very sad have you tried the obagi ....... or the copper peptide .... I have tried the Dr h cleansing cream after reading rave reviews on the forum, with the hope of helping blocked and open pores but as yet am still waiting. I am keen to try the IS clinical range vit c serums but here in the UK we don't have the same facilities.. Neutral
