I have used this all last year and plan to repurchase but I want to be sure of the ingredients and if it truely offers any real protection. It is 20 UVA/UVB and waterproof.
Here are the ingredients:
Aqua, octyl methoxycinnamate, dicaprylyl ether, 4-methylbenzylidene camphor, octyldodecanol, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, pvp/hexadecene copolymer, titanium dioxide, polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate, phenoxyethanol, tetrahydroxyprpyl ethylenediamine, tocopheryl acetate, parfum, tocopherol, acrylates/c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, methylparaben, ethylparaben, butylparaben, carbomer, hydrogenated tallow glycerides citrate, isobutylparaben, propylparaben.
how did I copy all of that |

Rosebud,
I would pass on this one just for the fact that they have the lethal combination of OMC and Avobenzone. |

Rosebud, is that the new 8hour one? |

No it's not the new 8 hour one. Bad bird forgive my ignorance but why is the combination of OMC and Avobenzone lethal? Does this interfere with the sun protection or is it hazardous to our health? |

Sorry, Rosebud ... I shouldn't have put it in such a way. It interferes with the UVA protection because OMC degrades Avobenzone. Hazardous to health, no, but degraded actives could generate free radicals. |

BadBird given the amount of crap that is out there I really think you should develop your own SPF cream and sell to the world.
You could call it "THE ONE" or something like that
Farouk
p.s. Theres no way im putting up the ingredient list of my La Prairie SPF fluid for fear that that might be rubbish too! Ignorance is most definetly bliss!! |

Hey Farouk,
You're not taking the piss with me, are you? You know very well I can't make my own sunscreen. Making it is one thing; testing it is another. I'll have to prove that my sunscreen is SPF200!
And Farouk, you constantly surprise me. As a doctor, you should know that ignorance is sometimes not bliss. People want to know so that they can deal with it and not wonder perpetually.
Also, I already know what's in your La Prairie. That's why I suggested that you downgrade to LRP sunscreens. |

Gosh. I was just having a laugh. Furthermore, I really wish youd stop putting me down by referring to my profession, because you use such useless examples. With regards to medicine, ignorance most certainly is not bliss - but where on a skincare forum where im referring to not wishing to know the contents of my SPF
And secondly - while I know chemicals in medicine are absolutely essential (with regards to your other suprise by my chemically contents of skincare products comment) - theyre not essential in skincare products - did you think I was talking about drugs or medications when you made this comment?
While yes I am Dr, I have the ability to think outside of those teachings which have been firmly ingrained when the situation requires it.
I do apologise if you did not mean to put me down, but this is the second time your 'suprised' by me being a doctor and making various comments and I find it justifiably rude.

Oh please! Spare me your theatrics. How can I possibly be putting you down referring to your profession??
Your profession is part of your identity, of who you are and how you are, and as deeply "ingrained" as your teachings are, how can you completely disassociate yourself from them?
If you don't want yourself thought of in the capacity of a doctor, why identify yourself as one in the first place? |

BadBird - where on a skincare forum. What on earth (in relation to what we're discussing) does me being a Dr have anything to do with me not wanting to know the contents of my SPF and me not wishing to use products that contain chemicals which do nothing for my skin?
Please answer that question. |

Well, isn't this a friendly and productive conversation! We're on an internet forum where it's really important that you do consider how what you write comes across. Please think about that when you post. I'm sure many of us have been guilty of unintentially offending someone but when we have done that we don't argue about it and take it further - we accept that it's happened, say we didn't mean it and try to be clearer in the future. This is particularly important in an Internet setting where the lack of face to face contact means that we cannot see gestures and express emotions as clearly as we would like to - which often leads to misunderstandings. |

Well said Mabsy. I just felt as this was the second dig I could take no more and had to respond.
I must learn from Molly and keep my cool, realising that the member in question really isnt worth it.

Eve - Head banging - as I am a Doctor and this frame of my governs my entire existence would you like me to respond in medical terms? |

I for one have found Bad Bird's advice to be invaluable. I've double-checked her info by doing my own internet searches and that's why I trust what she has to say. For those of us who want optimal sun protection, she's done a great service.
Since the NYT and other major players in the media have recently (and finally) picked up on the inadequacy of sunscreens available in many countries outside of France, I think Bad Bird is vindicated.
I find it amazing that some people are on the eternal hunt for beauty and anti-aging products and yet resist using the best sunscreen they can. IMO, sunscreen is the most important beauty product and everything else is secondary!!! |
