Hi! I'm new in here, and I was just curious as to people's opinions on commercial products vs professional products. Commercial products being products that are sold in drug stores, and professional products that are only sold in spas and in salons.
I would assume that by being in this forum, that you are all believers in the professional products! Smile

I was just wondering because there are so many products out there right now, and I just find it so confusing and sometimes overwhelming! Sad There is obviously a difference of prices between the two, but is there that much of a difference in the products?

Please share your opinions with me! Smile

I think I'm a believer in both. It's just a matter of finding a product that suits your skin. Both commercial and professional products, as you categorise them, have some good products and some that will not be suitable for your skin. So I think there is no easy answer, you just have to try them and see what works for you best.

I'm very smell oriented Smile I find that 'professional' products tend to smell and feel nicer than drugstore brands. I don't think I could find anything as nice as the Decleor oils and balms in drugstore brands.

To my knowledge, 'commercial products' or over the counter ( OTC) that are sold in the drugstores ( like Neutrogena ) are approved by FDA and they are ( of course) drugs. They are quite effective if you know exactly what you need and what they can do for you. They are also quite safe for general use. 'Professional products' that you can get only from a spa ( Dermalogica, Yonka, Decleor,...) or in some cases from your physician or dermatologist ( Differin, Renova,...) are the one prescribed or recommended especially for you after a consultation or following a treament. Most of the skin care ptds we purchase in the big department stores like Shiseido, Estee Lauder,... are considered cosmetic. Now there are cosmeceutical ptds that are stronger and better ( they claim ) than the traditional cosmetic formulations like MD Formulations, DDF, SkinMedica,...

We are living in a wonderful time of many choices and lots of information. The problem is there's also more confusion, that's why we need this kind of forum where we can ask questions and get answers from real consumers and ...beauty junkies whose experience and knowledge is more impressive and credible than those mag. ads or tv commercials. Hope this help, Matsu.WinkWinkWink
