(Excuse long Post)
Have read all your posts and your knowledge amazes me so I am coming to you for advice on skin care products and routine as my skin/med doctor just keeps pushing treatments and products at me.
Bio-43 yrs. old, fair skin, blue eyes, normal/dry/oily/sensitive, large pores with some blackheads on chin and nose, some acne scarring, roscea and broken capillaries, prone to peeling. Had hysterectemy 2yrs. ago, not on HRT's due to breast cyst in the watchful stage. Old routine-used neutragena face wash with LaRoche Vit C twice daily and Lancomes Absolue in morning and Oil of Olay at night. Tried Retin-A, way too irritating. Skin started showing fine wrinkles allover with deeper ones on nasolabia and mouth corners due to sun damage as a child. Started at a med/skin spa having botox in frown lines above eyebrows and have had 5 micro-dermabrasions and 2 photofacials (left huge red/purple bruises that are just now fading) plus restalyne in the line areas around my nose and mouth(poor results) 1 1/2 weeks ago. After complaining to Doctor about poor result on one mouth corner he says inject more (which we did with still only slightly better results) and that the only way to fix the line is to be using TNS Recovery complex (sells me an expensive bottle) for 90 days and gave me samples of the Kinerase line- wash, C peptide, and cream and says I should use all this twice a day from now on. Am breaking out and not seeing any results and I know it's probably too soon. But the expense from all of this seems high.
Any advice of a good routine and products that get good results with my skin type at more resonable prices? Ordered sample of the Super cop serum to try (not sure how). Also have started using the Avon Anew peel. ALso, would the TNS be considered any type of HRT, as this makes me a little nervous when I read your posts as to what it contains. Thanks again and sorry for the long post.

Hi Annie and welcome!

Wow, sounds like you have been through the mill.I can't comment on the TNS, but I would start the super cop sloooooowly. every other day and maybe apply to a damp face or just in certain areas. Also, you need to be aware that cop peps and vit C are incompatible, so use 12 hours apart.

I would go very easy on the products you use, because you sound like you have sensitive skin. Maybe give your skin a chance to get calm and use stuff like Dr Hauschka or just natural oils and then slowly introduce other things?

Maybe change your derm as well?

Liz Cool

Thanks-that's what I'm thinking. I called their office and expressed my disappointment and told them I am going to switch-I know it's their job to promote so that's why I came here. I don't smoke, overload on vitamins, and excercise every day but I think it's a little too late. I will try the Dr H, I keep reading great reviews.

definitely ease up on the routine, and give your skin a chance to calm down. i "developed" sensitive and dehydrated skin from over-doing it w. products, and have found that returning to dr. h's products has made a world of difference.

might i suggest, from dr. h, their sensitive rythmic conditioner...i found that it really made a difference w. the reactivity of my skin and taught my skin to resist getting too much of anything (ie. too dry or too oily), just nice and balanced. and also use a light hand in general, use gentle massage and press your products into your skin lightly.

you won't necessarily get the anti-aging effects, but your skin should get healthier.

Hi AnnieR!
I'm for the Dr. Hauschka route as well...it sounds like your skin is being forced to change gears every thirty seconds! Slow it all down, keep your routine clean and simple and see what happens.....the lack of activity might give your skin a chance to introduce itself..I haven't tried the rhythmic conditioner (Dr. H) but have heard terrific things about it!

Wow! They really did a number on you there. I'd back waaaay up.

First of all, Retin-A should not be used every day right away or your skin will react like a snake shedding skin. 3/2/1 is the rule - every three days for a while then every two, then every day if you ever get to that. After years of using it, I have never gotten to everyday use. But I can attest to it's powers of keeping my skin looking firm and younger. You might consider trying again or trying Retin-A Micro which is gentler, time-released and less likely to cause the shedding. Retin-A has 30 plus years of clinical proof supporting its ability to reverse sun damage and eliminate fine wrinkling.

You did not say if your C worked for you? The supercop is great, too, but indeed, C and copper cannot be used together. Use on alternate days/nights but never together as Guapa mentioned. If you dropped the C altogether, I'd add it back in. C is great for firming, brightening and retexturing skin. Plus all that protection from free radicals that cause aging. I couldn't live without it!

Alphaderma CE (Winnie can tell you more) seems to have had the biggest hurrahs here for helping with around the mouth/nasolabial lines. I'd look into that as well.

If you don't want to continue with botox, think about a topical wrinkle relaxer like Relax Plus with Vialox (cellularskinrx.com). It's strong and not costly.

The Dr. H. cleanser sounds like a good bet, too.

Was that too much info? Hope a bit of it was helpful anyhow.

By your description I take it that you have combo sensitive skin? It seems like your skin has been stuffed around by a bit too much product experimentation. Personally, I would drop back to a very simple routine and stay at it for a while until my skin normalised a bit. Then I would add a vitamin C serum and also something like the Alphaderma or other products to deal with lines. Of course, something with SPF is a must.

I can recommend the Dr Hauschka line as being nice and gentle to start off with. I think their Cleansing Cream is absolutely amazing at clearing out pores/blackheads and it's also a very gentle exfoliant. The Rejuvenating Mask might be a good pick-me-up for your skin as well. Just be aware that if you do change your skincare regime all in one go your skin might react rather unhappily at first....
