I laughed and laughed when I read this and...uhhh...thought of you two. Very Happy Shock

"While Iraq debates a new constitution that
women's groups say will reduce their rights
and take society back to the middle ages,
the UK bureaucrats are trying to convince British women to stop getting so drunk.

Drinks companies have been ordered to use uglier men in their advertising campaigns. The
Advertising Standards Authority believes
"balding" and "paunchy" men would be less likely to encourage women to drink to achieve social success. "

As if!!!!

I am not sure whether I should feel flattered or insulted or relieved I was dreading reading your post when I saw the heading Rolling Eyes

I am not sure if Liz has gone away yet, so she might not see this for ages.

Oh, please don't be insulted! I just thought that in previous posts you both seemed so funny and fun-loving -that this lame attempt by the Advertising Council to stop UK women from raising a glass or two (or three) seemed so ridiculously funny I had to share...

YOU ARE SOOOO DEAD BITCH!!!!! Bad Grin Bad Grin Bad Grin

Actually, whilst I probably do drink far too much, the ad campaigns are aimed at younger women who neck gallons of alcopops.

Us middle agers who get quietly sozzled at home are not seen as a problem because when we fall down drunk from too much Shiraz, our husbands just tuck us up in bed, whilst the younger women, tend to crack their heads open on pavements etc.

It is actually a serious problem, mini-me (who is 14) came back from a friends party the other week and told me that her friend had drunk so much in the first hour that she fell unconcious and had to be taken to hospital and several other of her friends were vomiting everywhere.

I live in a very small town, and it really is common to see teenage girls falling around pissed the whole time.

Sad really Confused

...off to finish my packing now Smile

that Liz Very Happy She da luv me sooooo muchhhh really!
She is right actually our local echo has been full of pictures of 12-13 year old girls absolutely p****d out of their heads, lying down on pavements in town.I mean seriously don't they know what easy prey that makes them for would be rapists & perverts etc.
Of course at my age I could be unconcious and naked and all the pervs would just walk over me. Embarassed

O, Jeezus! You guys are killing me! I can't stop laughing now.

But seriously - if I can get control of myself here - 12-13 year olds drunk as skunks - where do they get the booze. You can't buy it here without ID and have to be 21. I guess some 18 year olds etc might be able to nick some from older friends, etc. but 12-13!!!! Yikes!

I don't think paunchy, balding, old men in adverts are going to help with that problem.

Speaking as a former 13-year-old who liked to get drunk as a skunk, we got our booze right out of our parents' liquor cabinets. We'd just fall the bottles with water and food coloring to disguise the missing booze!

Carrie,
I can remember that time when my Dads whisky bottle and other drinks were probably 95% water and I thought they wouldnt notice. LOL. Not so funny at the time when they did realise.
Hmmm I used to be so naughty. Funny thing was after about the age of 19 I really didn't feel the need to drink much. Not that I am teetotal or anything I just don't enjoy getting drunk any more.I only drink about 1 or 2 times a year now.
