Wow! This site is amazing and I thank all of you for sharing sooo many of your secrets as they are all worth considering.
But I have a problem!
I am an African Canadian lady and I have some scars on my legs. Folks, I have tried soooo many products but nothing seems to be taking them away.
Today I was told by the pharmacist to try Dermatix Si cream as it will help, but it costs $50.00!
I have thought about tanning cream to smooth the color in but I can't find the right kind of stuff.
Right now I am at a loss as to what I can use.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? |

Hey datasmi-
I am not sure what you have tried so far, so I am sorry in advance if I give you some suggestions for stuff you have already used.
People have had great success with bio-oil, and it is fairly inexpensive. If you want to disguise them with fake tan but can't find the right shade for your skin, a shimmer cream can also do that for you by deflecting the light off the scars- but don't get a huge chunks of glitter one, just one with subtle shimmer. You could try cocoa butter, I have had good success with this and stretch marks, but it does take awhile to work and I don't know how deep the scars are or anything- it may not work if they are large.
Hope this helps!!

Have you tried cocoa butter?
Also, there is a forum at http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/. There are topics ranging from acne to removal of spots.
The site was down today for repair but I am sure you'll find answers from other black women and their suggestions with similiar problems. |

i have one thing to say.. decléor aromessence tonilastil and decléor prolagène gel. I can't say whether it will work on your skin because i'm not afro-caribbean but it's got rid of the majority of my stretch marks and a 2 inch long scar on my face (well its no longer visible unless you're looking for it.). |

I'm actually pretty pasty in color (or lack there of!), so I can't vouch for this from personal experience, but there is a cream called Ambi that my Pacific Islander and African American friends have really liked in the past. I think you can get it at certain drugstores, too. But Ambi is a line of skin products specifically for those with dark skin. It's obvious which one the scar fader is, but that's one that I know of.
Hydroquinone based products would probably just ended up bleaching your skin, which would suck. I think most scar-fading products are more skin-lightening related, which may or may not work in your situation if you monitor them closely.
Definately give the Ambi a shot if you can find it (I remember it being pretty easy to find, and I think it's only between $8-15.) It used to (and may still) come in a brown metal tube with greenish writing. |

What about using one of those new products created strictly for scar therapy? I think one of them is called “Mederma” and I think I heard that Neosporin now offers one, too.... |

I've heard of a product called Fair&White serum that someone used and it worked fairly well. |

Hi
My partner is Black and he uses cocoa butter, but he buys it in a block (its white) looks like wax, but he rubs it on all his scars and they fade very quickly..He keeps it in the fridge! |

Where does one purchase the white cocoa butter from? Is there a website you can direct me to? We do have cocoa butter here in Nova Scotia (Canada), but it's yellow... |

Try this seller (coffeebetty) on ebay for white cocoa butter. I've purchase powder goat milk for bathing and it's wonderful.
White Cocoa Butter vs. Yellow Cocoa Butter
White Cocoa butter the seed kernals the butter is extracted and further processed and refined to obtain a white, neutral color butter which has virtually no odor, making it ideally suited for use in high end cosmetics and toiletries where effects of color and odor are an issue.
Yellow butter--This is your plain cocoa butter... Yellow in color and full of that deoderants. |

Thanks so much for the information. I will contact that particular ebay member and see if I can purchase the product.
What kind of results can one expect to see? How long of a time period will it take to make a noticeable difference? |

try NEO STARTA HQ GEL, it works wonders and you get it at pharmacy at food basics, shoppers drug mart.
start off with 2% (it's comes in a bigger tube)
i'd go with food basics since it's cheaper.
the only drawback is the tube is 21 gms but u don't have to use alot and it takes about 2 motnhs to notice a difference.
good luck. |
