info on alcohol in hair products

hi guys,

i found out some interesting information on hair products that contain alcohol. some of you are worried about using a product that will dry out your hair. if you're like me you might look at a particular product's back label to check its list of ingredients for alcohol. i decided to investigate to see what alcohols are acceptable Dancing

and what alcohols aren't Shame on you

. here's what i found:

---"Not all alcohols are drying. Fatty alcohols (like stearyl and cetyl) found in shampoos and conditioners help hydrate hair. Surfacants(other ingredient info):
"the most important ingredients to keep your eyes on are the surfactants. We prefer the sodium laureth sulfate. It is the gentlest of the surfactants but will lather very little which is why most shampoos won't use it. Consumers believe their hair isn't getting clean unless there are tons of bubbles. In truth lather has no beneficial affect and contributes little to good cleaning."

Thank you! That's very interesting. I have just recently looked at my thermal protector mousse and this has ethyl alcohol as the 2nd ingredient and isopropyl alcohol not very far behind.... I'll need to do some more reading about these.

hey! what do you know? that's the website ( http://www.sunsethair.com/ingredients.htm ) i couldn't find again when trying to site my quotes i included in my post. right on, mabs.

isn't it amazing how companies pull the wool over people's eyes just to make their big bucks? so sad. (however, in reality, extremely minor in comparison to all the other sad things in this world).

anyway, here's a story for ya. my friend used to use thermasilk to "protect" her hair when blow drying but after some time her hair turned into something awful. AND, interestingly enough, what was even worse was that she had started badly breaking out all over her forehead which was a new thing for her. finally, because her hair was so dull etc, she stopped using the thermasilk and low and behol her forehead stopped breaking out.

amazing what you learn.

Well, I'll be sure to stay away from Thermasilk too then! I do sometimes have a problem with breakouts on my forehead due to shampoos - particularly ones with high silicon content (Fructis!).

The stuff I used to use till a few days ago was Wella Perfect Hair. I've now switched to just Frederik Fekkai Glossing Cream.
