I'm not really familiar with products containing glycolic acid and was wondering if there is anything I need to be made aware of when using them.
I have a couple of MD Formulations samples that I am trying out and was worried that there may be some dos and don'ts to bear in mind when using them.
Is it ok to use them with vitamin c serum?
Are glycolic products likely to make my skin more sensitive to the sun? I'm worried that all this exfoliation will mean that my skin will become thinner and more susceptible to sun damage.
Any particular products or ingredients that do not mix well with glycolic acid products?
TIA ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

Although this is difficult to tell, I've been told that the pH of the product will determine how effective it is. That's why some people find that certain AHA products are more effective for them than others.
AHAs do make your skin more sensitive to the sun - they exfoliate and leave the fresh new skin exposed to the elements rather than being protected by the dead skin cells. That's why many people tend to use these at night rather than during the day. I use my Vit C in the morning and any AHA products at night. It's also important to be using a good SPF product while using an AHA product IMO.
It's definitely OK to use vit C with AHAs though - the AHAs are actually supposed to increase the absorption of the vit C due to the removal of dead skin cells. Skinceuticals actually makes a serum that combines vit C and AHA into one step ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

Thanks for the info, Mabsy.
I've been using the MD Formulations Vit A Plus eye creme at night along with the Vivier 10 serum. It does seem to be helping to fade my pigmentation marks.
I have just started using my sample of the MD Formulations facial creme. Am trying this out in the morning before I put on my minerals. I'm hoping it will help sort out the pesky blackheads on my nose and chin.
It is the sensitive skin version though so I'm not sure how strong it is. The texture is lovely though. Not at all greasy. Makes a great make-up base. My minerals went on more smoothly than ever this morning.
Have just checked out the website and it says that the sensitive version has a PH of 4.4 whereas the normal version has a PH of 3.8. Doubt the results will be too spectacular then. ![Sad](images/smiles/sad.gif) |

I think both the normal and sensitive version have the same concentration (14%), they just differ in their pH. Anything with a pH between 3 to 4 is apparently ideal. I think it was anything with a pH above 4.5 (or thereabouts) that starts to be less effective.
ETA: Please don't quote me on these. It's been a while since I read stuff about AHAs. |

I think you are right about that, Mabsy. Also, remember pH for the C serum should be around 3 too, so if you put in the AHA cream in the AM, followed by C, I think it might increase the pH of the C too.
I tend to have sensitive skin, but I can use the regular MDF products. ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

I have been using MD Forte products for awhile with my C serum, with great results. I use the 30% lotion and I was using the cleanser. I also use IS Clinical's Active serum. |

I'm using glyderm AHA10% lotion. It helps me to remove the yellowish skin that follow me many many years!
Great product! |
