Hello all,
Well only 2 sleeps until I leave for the US! I'm so excited!! But, it's suddenly dawned on me that this is a lot longer flight than what I'm used to and I don't know how my skin is going to cope with over 25 hours of flying!! Has anyone got any suggestions for keeping my skin looking gorgeous??? My bf, whom I haven't seen for over 4 months, is picking me up at the other end and I want to look as nice as possible when I get there!!
I was thinking I'll go makeupless (haha yes I think I just invented a new word! ), use my usual Jurlique Calendula cream for some moisture and then freshen up reguarly with Jurlique rose water or Derm Multi-Active toner (depending on which I take in flight) and theeeeen apply some of my ever faithful Dr H Rejuventing Mask about an hour before landing. Anything else I should/shouldnt do? Thank you |

Hi Princesita!! Looks like you have all of your ground covered!! Good for you!! And you'll probably be so excited that you'll just be beautiful anyway! Having said that, flight cabin air for 25 hours can dehydrate the heck out of your skin...Drink lots of water and try to keep your skin lubricated with something non-irritating....don't just spritz - use something with a non-clogging barrier effect....Orlane used to make a top notch flight cream but it got discontinued...I'd recommend at least an hyaluronic acid gel ...like the one from SkinC or CellexC....and something that won't clog your pores; like Smashbox PHotofinish primer overtop - to keep your skin from dehydrating...
Happy Flying!

Sounds like you really have this figured out already! I'd be taking my Valmont Renewing Pack or the Dr Hauschka Rejuvenating as well and doing this towards the end of the flight. I also go with a bare face but bring some makeup with me to apply before we land (only the bare minimum).
I agree with Pudoodles, drink lots of water and don't just spritz, seal that moisture with something. I actually read a while ago that spritzing with just water (Evian was the example given) is actually bad on the plane because it dries out the skin faster. I'm not sure if that is accurate but it would make sense to spritz and then put a barrier over that afterwards to prevent it from evaporating.
Hope you have a fantastic trip!!!! |

When my skin is dry, I bring the BURTS BEES Carrott seed mist for hydration with natural oils, and when my wallet agrees, I being the CAUDALIE Beauty Elixir mist |

hi Princesita,
I also would recommend taking ginseng with royal jelly and bee pollen dietary supplement (small bottles), it would help your overall well being and your skin. and !please! move around on your flight to avoid blood clots!! |

Thanks ladies, that makes sense (about spritzing). I think I have some samples left of Derm Barrier Repair so that should do the trick in terms of sealing in moisture! And tipu, thanks for the advice about the blood clots. My dad is freaking out about me being so far away so he's gone thru all these things step by step even to the point of demonstrating some exercises that I can do. Thanks again. |

I am so sorry; it appears the link I gave you was not a direct one. In the search engine, simply click the word "Flight" & it'll come up! |

I'm going to be in Virginia Beach for most of the time, but also New York, Orlando, Houston and Mexico |

When I took the same trip (for the same reason!!) I bought Jurlique Aromamist Travel Blend at Sydney Airport Duty Free and I drenched myself in it on the plane. The poor people next to me! It worked really well. I read Nicole Kidman uses it and she always looks glow-y so it must do something right. Not drinking wine/alcohol helps immensely of course!! I also didn't wear any makeup on the plane either. I read in a Virgin Air magazine once that a trick that air hostesses use is to put a little fruit juice in with your drinking water. Apparently it is better for rehydration. I would probably stay away from salty foods also, as salt can make you puffy.
Hope it all goes well |

Just come back from a 10 hour flight and my skin really suffers during a flight, it gets so dehydrated, I have oily skin usually. I always take some wet wipes, the ones that you can use on your face and body and have a "wash" before you get there just to freshen up. Make sure you've got a toothbrush handy, most long haul flights give you toothpaste and brush in the amenity packs. Put on loads and loads of moisturiser and try to keep reapplying it and if you have something to give your hair a bit of bounce that would be great too, I get really bad static from flying, it's the only time when my hair gets really fly away.
Stay clear of the spritz, it's the worse thing for your face, unless you use it just to freshen up, before you land.
Apart from that, just apply a little mascara and lipstick and you're all set. Have a fab time. |

i often take long/ very long flights and learned, by trial & error, what works and what does not work for my skin.
Prescriptives - does not work. Bought it long time ago based on suggestion from a beauty magazine. Waste of money imho
Here are some of things you might try:
1. Hydrosols (like rose). Lemon, lavender or any floral water you like. Best used on a clean face – no makeup
Using it continuously throughout the flight, every couple of hours or so.
2. Few drops of oil - neem or squalane works well. Again, use the oil suitable for your skin type and do it right after using hydrosol.
3. Moisturizing cream - if your skin feels especially dry.
4. Sorry – no alcohol
5. Exercise – stretch in your seat, walk around the plane. Keep that blood circulating.
6. Just before or after landing – very light makeup. Light dusting of pinkish blush, some highlighting powder and lip gloss.
And of course, a dab of your favorite perfume. |

Just remembered...Dr. Hauschka sells a "jet-set kit" especially made for flying on airplanes...I know models love it |

Lots of good ideas here for me to use on my next flight! My main suggestion would be to stay hydrated, but that's been well covered by now. Have a safe flight and great trip! |

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the suggestions, I did get off the plane looking pretty good (well as good as can be expected considering my lack of sleep and the time I'd spent on the plane, changing planes, waiting for delayed flights at the airport, and tracking down the bags which a certain airline LOST!! ). Thankfully I'm here now, in one piece and ready to enjoy my extended holiday!!! |
