i was on the way to a funeral yesterday morning..in the backseat with my brother. the front seating in the back of the van was taken out, and some SUV cut in front of my dad causing him to brake. I didnt have the belt on ..*ugh*. and i went flying. missed the funeral and had to get checked for a concussion at the hospital. my whole side of my face is swollen and i have a big black eye. my skin is very fragile in general..so i want to avoid broken capillaries and get a speedy recovery. i dont think i see any yet. Any suggestions? I keep getting hurt lately;(

Here is a pic...no makeup, and im pretty scary ha.

Ouch! Poor you!

If you have any access to homeopathic medicine, Arnica as tablets and also as a cream is very helpful with bruising.

Hope you are feeling better soon and next time wear a belt!

Ive been putting a soft dinner cloth style towel over cold packs and wetting it a tad so the cold hits it..ive been doing that all day yesterday and today. I tried finding some vitamin K to put on the bruise but i can only find stuff for spider veins..ugh. hehe.

Welada makes an arnica oil thats fabulous for that as well. I've used it myself and the recovery was very rapid. Best of luck, and very sorry for your loss.

I hope you have recovered and everyone else who was in the car is Ok..as for the bruising I agree with the homeopathic remedies, they are very gentle yet extremly effective.
Zinc and oil supplements would also speed up the healing process.

I called a GNC store by my house and they carry arnica in pill, gel, and cream form. I'm definitely getting it in pill form..but i would like to either try the cream or gel as well. Does anyone know which would be better?

purpleturtle, I read on MUA that arnica is great for bruises but I've never tried it myself. I just want to say I'm sorry to hear about the accident and I'm wishing you a fast recovery Pray

So sorry to hear about your accident. I hope the rest of your family is okay as well.

After my recent cosmetic surgery, my surgeon recommended Arnica tablets (3) dissolved under the tongue and Bromelain tablets (from pineapples). Arnica for brusing and Bromelain for swelling.

Icing is good for swelling for the first 3 days only. Day three is the peak day for brusing and swelling and then you will see a very rapid improvement.

Dear purpleturtle - I'm so sorry about your accident, especially considering the circumstances. I hope you're feeling better now. A friend of mine was prescribed arnica (aka leopard's bane) pills by her plastic surgeon after her face lift. There must be something to this, if MDs are relying on it for their patients. I've tried the gel for various bruises but it didn't help me. Let us know how things turn out!

I think im gonna try it topically instead..I just read a disturbing article about it being "toxic" to take internally?

I am sorry to hear of your accident, purpleturtle.

Reguarding the arnica;

I work in a health food co-op, and have some personal experience with homeopathics, and I love them. They have helped me with depression, and many other things.

Since homeopathy deals with very trace amounts of the remedy, it is one of the safest forms of medicines. If the actual plant is consumed, in tea or tincture, there might be some complications- I wouldn't recomend it. But, purpleturtle, if you get those little sugar pills in 30C strength they would really help with the bruising. The larger the #, the more potent- I usually get the Boiron brand. Also, stay away from coffee, mint, and other strong aromatics at least an hour around taking the remedy.

I really hope you feel better soon Smile

BTW, I have been lurking for awhile, and this forum is super fun and informative! Thank you all for being here!

Ouch! I'm so sorry to hear that!

I don't have much advice to offer other than maybe looking into vitamin K creams. They are used by surgeons to reduce bruiseing after operations etc.

purpleturtle, I was just on the PSF thread in the Product Reviews section and I read that Burts Bees Attar of Rose Repair Serum helps bruises heal faster. There is another thread specifically about this product in the same section you might also want to check out. HTH

Purpleturtle,
Sorry to hear about your accident - I second everything said by everyone else. Arnica gets my vote - both the tablet and topically. Topical arnica should not be applied onto broken skin as arnica can be toxic, but as with all homeopathic remedies the idea is to treat the problem with tiny doses of something that in excessive amount causes what you are tryign to cure (I guess a similar principle to vacination?). Taken in the recommended amounts it is harmless. As far as topical application goes, as general rule Gels are more quickly absorbed than creams so personally I always use an arnica gel.
As previously stated, cold compresses will take down the swelling and vitamin K is great for reducing broken capillaries.

Take Care of yourself and get well soon.

Smile

Oh my goodness, you poor thing! What an awful experience!

I hope you make a good and quick recovery from the accident, but in the meantime I'd definitely go along with the topical arnica suggestion. I've only ever used the gel before because that's all we have at home and only on my body (I'm the clumsiest person in the world and am always getting bruises). I'm not sure whether that or the cream would be best for your face. I'd probably check with your local health food shop.

Take care.

OMG! I just saw this post! I'm so sorry about what happened...but at least you are OK! Arnica is wonderful for bruising, as is taking horse chestnut extract. Be careful with the arnica though...people who are allergic to poison ivy tend to react badly to arnica....I would try it topically to make sure that you can tolerate it. Also, you might want to think about taking MSM supplements, as it helps speed healing. So sorry to hear about your bad luck. Sad

MSM? What is that? im planning on trying the arnica..but my skin is so sensitive im scared itll react. It said it can cause redness and itchiness....not sure im up for that. If its got a low dosage in the gel, but just enough to work (15% i believe i should look for?), ill try it. I just dun think i can handle looking any uglier right now hehe

I am so sorry about your accident. Sad

I was in an accident a while ago with my face all bruised and burned up from crashing down on the pavement.

From personal experience, the more you put "stuff" on your face, the harder it'll take to heal up. You should put a little and let nature do its work. I had a burn from cooking on my hand a few days ago, and without putting anything on, it healed up after a week.

When I tried putting stuff on my face from a pimple, it dried up, peeled, and now hasn't healed in freaking 4 months. Sad

I'm sooooooo sorrrrrrrrrrry!! *HUGS* please be okay. I know having bruises and marks on your face sucks; it makes a bad day even worse! Good luck and take care of yourself, purpleturtle.
