A friend of mine recommended a regimen for getting rid of my new found acne problem.

She mentioned I would need 8% AHA. Any good products out there I should try?

I use a 10% AHA Age-Limit serum (glycolic/lactic mix). It's specifically made for sensitive skin if you are worried about irritation. I use it on my off-Retin-A nights. I get it at cellularskinrx.com. If you want 8% specifically, you might think about checking out Paula's Choice products at cosmeticscop.com. I think she might have an 8% mix.

I read somewhere that 6 mos. of 10% AHA serum each night was equal to a one-time glycolic acid peel without the mess and down time.

Good luck!

Using Retin-A alone, I found my face peeling and a bit sensitive. Then once I added a 10% glycolic acid solution to the mix (Retin-A one night, glycolic the next), my peeling was gone and my skin "toughened up" in terms of sensitivity, and also became less ruddy & more even. My favorite brands are M.D. Forté & Glyderm.

My all time favorite skin care product is maybe the biggest bargain of all time. I've used Walgreens brand Alpha Hydroxy 8% AHA for a few years now. It comes in lotion or cream formula for $5.99. Use it before bedtime...you'll love the way your skin looks in the morning.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll check them out. Walgreens??? Are you serious? I didn't know drugstores make that high of a percentage AHA?

That's a good suggestion! I saw a bottle of this glycolic acid for $5.99 USD at Walgreens a few months back & thought it was a great idea if you're into convenience & cutting corners pricewise. 8% of a 70% solution isn't bad at all, considering the bargain! I would use something like this on my body every other night. Here's a visual - because you know I love visuals. lol

There's also 12% Lac-Hydrin with 12% lactic acid - which, of course, is also an alpha-hydroxy acid. (pH of 4.5-5.5) Has anyone tried this one? It's available without a prescription at CVS.

Yes, that's the Walgreens product I use Sheila. It's definitely strong enough, I totally feel the tingle when it's applied. I like the lotion best, but last time I went shopping for it they were sold out in the 3 Walgreens I checked...finally found the cream and settled for it. Since I use it before bedtime I don't mind the heavier cream formula.
I haven't seen the Lac-Hydrin before.

I found for AHA products, MD formulation is very good. They do different %tage up to 30%. I used them years ago and found them are fine for sensitive skin too. Although I recommend start from the lowest percentage and gradually increase it.
