Hi ladies,
I've been a longtime lurker and am a first time poster. I've come for advice as I am a tad confused about the varying pros and cons of Helioplex vs. Mexoryl in sunscreen. I've been using La Roche Posay Anthelios XL 60SPF up until now but I do find that it causes a bit of a 'chalky' effect on my skin. I am rather fair to begin with so I'm no so happy with the 'goth effect' though am willing to live with it if this truly is the 'best' sunscreen.
I've noticed Nutrogena Ultimate Sport 60 SPF and a few others that include Helioplex and am wondering if they would offer a similar benefit in terms of broad spectrum protection.
Any thoughts would be VERY appreciated. You ladies seem to know much more than I!!
NP: I do use a daily CE Ferulic as well but just have not been happy with the 'look' I get with La Roche Posay. |

Hi there,
Welcome to the forum. I personally think that Mexoryl is better than Helioplex. I used Helioplex and got pink under the sun, but it was a tropical sun. Lots of derms endorse Mexoryl as the best chemical to protect you from both UVA and UVB.
I know what you mean about the white cast. I'm sporting one right now using the LRP Anthelios SPF40.  |

| You could always try a physical sunscreen, one that contains zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide, they offer broad spectrum protection too. |

My opinion is not to get hung up on which sunscreen ingredient is better. Its a matter of preference. Personally I just go for the cheapest I can find, with the uva/uvb broad spectrum protection I'm looking for. I like the tinted moisturizers with spf 15 such as bobby brown, macs or even Paula's Choice (the best as far as I'm concerned)and reasonably priced. |

I went to my derma yesterday. He said that what you should look for is a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide. He also said that sunscreens are good for 6 months and then you should get a new one.. also, you should re-apply often.. like every 3 hours he said. Neutrogena has a new line "Sensitive Skin Sunblock Lotion
spf 60+" which contains zinc oxide and Titanium Dioxide. |
