Has anyone tried this? Does it work? How do you stomach the super green drink? Blech!

It's one of those new miracle diets. Supposedly, if your body is too acidic (vs. alkaline) it causes everything from weight gain to cancers, irritability, ENT/sinus problems, kidney problems, on and on...Dr. Robert Young recently wrote a book about it and heads a place called InnerLight.

You're supposed to get off sugar, milk and red meat. Yikes! What's left?! Whole grains and veggies. Coconut milk instead of regular, stevia instead of sugar. Young also has this Super Green powder that, in one TBS., gives you several times the veggies you could possibly eat in one day. You mix it with distilled H20 and baking soda. The baking soda is awful. But a woman on Woman's Day (is that a rag?) lost a bunch of weight doing this.

It sounds like hooey to me. But you never know. That's what they said about Atkins. And look, tons of people have lost weight, lowered cholesterol, gotten off insulin. However, there's been a backlash and now Atkins has gone Chapter 11 and people rec. moderation instead.

I tried it and got sick on the first day! I made the smoothie with coconut milk and it was so heavy, I got nauseous. I drank some of the green stuff which made it worse. I got dizzy and light headed. A couple hours later, I ate some protein which helped, but wow coconut milk is just too heavy. I guess Asians are supposed to be acidic ...

Did you get the recipe from Woman's Day also or somewhere else? How did the shake taste, other than being too heavy?

Yes I got the shake recipe from the Woman's Day. It tasted pretty good until it made me sick.

The diet sounds rather severe -- perhaps it would be easier to sort of ease your way into it? Feeling light headed and nauseus is no good!

It is severe, but I thought I was easing into it by just starting with the smoothie for breakfast, but right away that made me ill. I would expect some withdrawal symptoms from going off sugar, etc., but not from a smoothie!

Wow, that's weird that a smoothie was so strong! If it were me I think I'd try cutting down and then cutting out the suggested foods first, then start the supplements and smoothies. For instance -- try not eating any refined sugars for a week, instead just use natural sweeteners like maple syrup and honey. . . and then you can cut them all altogether. Next week maybe try no red meat, etc.

I haven't eaten meat in years and I found that it was very easy to give up. I have given up sugars for a few weeks at a stretch, but that was much more difficult. Although, after not having sugar for about three days you no longer miss it -- it's just getting through the initial cravings that is VERY difficult!
