Tops of my inner ears are inflamed from a reaction to using foam earplugs (Hubby is stopped up and snoring badly). Any recommendations oils, etc. to calm the redness and peeling in a hurry? Derm gave me topical steroids but it isn't going away and I can only use it for short periods of a time. Thanks. |

If I have a reaction, I use cortisone and take an antihistamine. Have tried an antihistamine? Cortisone usually helps right away, maybe go back to the doctor if it's not helping. |

From experience using foam earplugs most of my adult life working in noisy environments, I would trash the earplugs making your ears raw. I had the same problem years ago and it didn't go away until I tried a different plug that didn't irritate my inner ear. Try different ones, there are many brands out there or get the customized molded ones, ask your doctor for a referral. |

Are you sure its from the earplugs? If you've stopped using the earplugs and its still there even with topical steriods, you might want to see an ear nose and throat dr. instead of a dermatologist. They also make these wax plugs that form to ur ears for swimming, I assume a drug store would carry them, might want to try those, once ur ears clear up. Good luck. |

Give Emu Oil a go on your dermatitis. You might be pleasantly surprised. |

I can't remember the ones I use at work, but they are bright pink and sort of cylinder shaped, and they are really smooth. The ones that gave me probs were the yellow spongy type that were flat on the ends and I had to really roll the crap out of them to get them to fit properly. It felt like my ear canal was being stretched to the max everytime I used them, and my ears would itch like crazy and start getting raw.I will do a search and try to find the ones I use with no problemos. |

Yep, it seems the evil ones were my culprit too. It was either the earplugs or the hubby and he'll be glad to know there is a back up plan (Just kidding). I'm ordering the pink ones today. In the meantime I'll try the emu oil and antihistimines since my allergies are acting up anyway. Thanks so much for all the help. |
