I'm once again looking for a skincare line that's suitable for my skin (oily, prone to outbreaks and blackheads but also somewhat sensitive). Unfortunately Dr.H doesn't seem to be agreeing with me. I follow the routine and have done for a couple of months now, as well as seeing a Dr.H esthetitian for facials. I see no improvement in my skin, which is dissapointing. Also, I'm going away for 3 months in December and the Dr.H routine just isn't practical for me. I prefer a facial wash and moisturiser for the basics. I've been looking at Murad and Phytomer and would love to hear from anyone who uses these ranges and has the same sort of skin problems as me. Sorry about the long thread, but I thought the background was important!
Thanks in advance.... |

I have never tried Phytomer. So, I can't comment on that.
You are away for 3 months? is it a vacation or special occassion? I used Murad before. About a week of usage, I was going through the purging process with A LOT of breakouts.
This process is very common and expected as per the Murad's website. So, if you are going to have a vacation elsewhere, I would not recommend using Murad (you don't want to ruin your holiday mood, right ) |

I'm going to South East Asia and India for 3 months, travelling with a backpack! Can't wait! I need a simple skincare routine that's quick and easy but also helps keep spots at bay. Any ideas? |

What about ProActive.......quick and works(worked for me for a few months anyway) ..unless you are against using BPs!
I am an Indian and have lived in India till I was 23, ...and i have travelled extensively in South-East asia..(major tourist spots)living in Singapore and Hong Kong so if you have any questions whatsoever...I would be happy to try and answer...good luck! |

Hi Rachel
Speaking from my own experience, Phytomer is a gentle range which tends to be rich; Murad has a few good items but I did read that some members react to it adversely...
Key Criteria:
1) Sensitive skin
2) Prone to breakouts
3) Simple routine
4) Withstand grimy weather in South East Asia..
I suggest you try a kit from MD Formulations.
You may either try the one for sensitive skin or the one for problem skin.
It has a cleanser, a facial lotion and hydration moisturizer, a sunscreen and an eye cream.
In my experience, when I travel, I like to use MD Formulations cos it keeps the pores clean and unclogged. I have tried other brands but so far, MD gives me the least headaches post travel. In the past, with all the travelling and lack of time to mask, etc, I came home after trip with clogged pores, white heads and bumps under the skin that took ages to clear.
I have not had any such problems since I used MD Formulations.
If you are going on a 3 month trip, maybe one kit may not be enough. Bring 2 and discard along the way....

Rachel,
I personally like the Phytomer range but it seems a bit heavy for those that don't have sensitive and dry skin since it's so moisturizing/rich. Don't recall any products stating oil free so if you are oily you may want to check out MD Formulations like Jenny recommended. I use some of their products and did not react badly to it and I have sensitive skin. You mentioned keeping your spots at bay, what about Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion to spot treat acne? I have not used it but one of my coworkers swears by that product.
Don't forget the sunscreen, the sun is stronger in that part of the region right? Hope you have a great trip!! |

Thank you all for your advice. I think I'm going to try the MD formulations kit. I've actually looked at it before. One more question though - is the sensitive skin kit still suitable for helping control and prevent oiliness and spots? Also, does anyone have any suggestions of products that I should take with me? Keeping in mind I have to carry everything in a backpack, multi purpose products would be useful! Thanks again for all your advice, you are a great help! |

I definitely second the idea of the MDF kit. The sensitive one still has the glycolic acid ingredients that will help keep your skin clear (with exfoliation). Phytomer is a very good line overall but the moisturisers that I have tried have tended to be on the thicker side as mentioned. I have not tried Murad anti-acne product as yet. I can definitely vouch for the effectiveness of the MDF basic skincare set. I've used the lotion, the cleanser and their Clearing Complex masque and spot treatment to get rid of my under skin bumps. The only thing that I have found too harsh on a daily basis is the vit-a-plus eye cream, which is fantastic for spot-treating millia if you happen to get any.
Have a fantastic trip!!! |

Hi Rachel
I think you would be the best judge as to whether to get the sensitive skin range or the combo skin range. Personally, I think the sensitive one works fine - you don't want to risk a too strong reaction whilst travelling cos help may not be available.
You may want to take along a spot treatment, like Mabsy suggested. I would also request for some sample pouches of Dermalogical's Microfoliant to bring along - you may want to physically albeit gently exfoliate. The sample pouches will be great although I am not sure if EDS has stock of them at the moment. If not, an alternative gentle scrub once or twice a week should do the trick.
Yes, the suggestion of a good sunscreen must be heeded. I am not sure where you are currently residing but the sun over this side is strong.
Nothing beats a great trip then being prepared. I remember a disastrous trip during which I forgot my skin care pouch and had to make some quick purchases at the airport - that was bad cos I see my skin breaking out along the way - quite depressing.
I am sure you will have a good trip cos you are getting prepared!
Cheers
