Assuming that the cosmos continue on their current path, I will have a date for my company's Holiday Party. Pray people, pray...
Pray

The party is semi-formal. I have found a SMASHING dress that falls just below the knee.

The dress (as most are, I see) is shown by the designer with bare legs, pedicured toes, and sexy, be-jeweled, open-toed shoes, but it's WINTER here! I would rather not have to wear hose, which would require closed-toe pumps, and I WILL NOT wear open-toed shoes with those hose without a toe or with a "sandal-foot" because that's horrendous looking.... so will I look like an idiot wearing bear legs in the winter? I am not concerned about getting cold because fashion controls comfort. It's looking inappropriate for the season that concerns me. (My mom made me read Emily Post as a child and I am still scarred. She's adamant against no hose, so she's no help...)

DO PLEASE HELP! Pray

Hi LandB Smile I hate wearing hose so maybe I'm biased, but... no, I don't think you should have to wear hose even in the dead of winter if it will ruin the look of your dress. No, you will not look like an idiot. Those days of hose-at-all-times are over, and thankfully so IMO. Yes, it will feel very cold but you have said you are willing to sacrifice for a few hours.

Intead of hose, how about this -

http://www.sallyhansen.com/airbrush_legs.cfm

In your situation I would also consider prepping for the occasion with self-tanner (to even out color), or a luminizing product (Scott Barnes' Body Bling maybe?). My theory is if your legs are blindingly gorgeous it will not even to occur to anyone that your bare legs are possibly inappropriate Wink

Disclaimer: Of the products mentioned I've only used self-tanner and so I cannot vouch for the other stuff. You have some time to experiment though, if you want to try them. HTHS

crazyskin's absolutely right!

I haven't tried the Sally Hanson product, but I have had fantastic results with Air Stocking (see http://www.airstocking.com/en/index.html for more details). As long as I wait for it to dry properly, it doesn't rub off on my clothes, nor does it come off in the rain.

It evens out skin tone, covers imperfections and makes even my milkbottle-coloured legs look amazing.

Only problem is that it is more expensive than the Sally Hanson. Haven't compared the two yet, but I wonder if anyone else has?

Anyway, I would be prepared to go bare-legged for a winter party if I had a pair of killer sandals. Don't see anything wrong with it, so you go for it! Very Happy

LandB! How exciting! I love holiday parties!! And I ditto the others on Air Stockings. It is a fabulous spray on. I used this in August when I was a bridesmaid in a very formal silk dress. It was a long day...12noon to the wee hours of the morning, in and out of hot, humid weather and this stuff did not budge. No need for touch ups either. I was impressed.

As far as your dress...wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Visualize yourself, with your date, at the party in the dress. I've seen, and worn, everything at holiday parties....from slip dresses to silk pants, a matching jacket and a cami. If you wear what makes you feel good, it's appropriate.

Just my 2 cents.

LandB -

I agonize over the very same thing at our annual holiday party. I have a really pretty pair of open toed shoes and the thought of wearing nylons with them is just wrong!!!

I totally agree with the Air Stocking or the Scott Barnes or even the Sally Hanson suggestions. Your legs will look fab.

Us NH girls can brave any cold winter day for the sake of fashion!!! Maybe your date can drop you right off at the door while he goes to park the car!

Hugs to you all for the empowerment. I'm GONNA DO IT!

Further, this provides the perfect opportunity for me to purchase, compare, and contrast Air Stocking, Body Bling, and Sally Hansen.

And Maria, this girl's gettin' a limo. Why the heck not? Dancing

Hi majorb Smile Nice to run into you! That's it, Air Stocking! I have read many good reviews on it but for the life of me couldn't remember the name. Then I googled and found the Sally Hansen. Thanks majorb for coming to my rescue (once again)! Very Happy

Go LandB go! Have a great time!

go without the hose, put on a self tanner or try the air stockings (I've never tried them myself)

I wouldn't go to a winter party in sandals with bare feet! Depending on the look of the dress I would definitely consider boots! I wouldn't be fundamentally against bare legs in boots. Wink
