Alright, I’ve got a favorite new lipstick/lip balm for daytime use! I was actually nearly finished with my tube of Lamas Lip Enhancer and was pondering whether or not to order another tube when this little wonder from Smashbox wandered in to my life.

I actually received this in an MUA swap (BNIB) and I have to say that it turned out to be the best swap that I have ever negotiated!! Smile I got it in “Shine,” which is a bright, almost-fushcia-pink in the tube (think “Fushcia Fix” from MAC TLC in the pot) but which goes any very pale and sheer, although the color is buildable.

These come in a white lipstick tube with the Smashbox logo imprinted on the side and I find this product to be the perfect marriage between tinted lip treatment/balm but with enough pigment that it acts almost like a lipstick – albeit the *best* lipstick I’ve tried in quite some time! They even have a built-in SPF of 15.

There is no discernable scent or taste, and it’s very emollient without being greasy, and it doesn’t bead up into little waxy balls on my lips if I apply another layer without completely wiping away the remnants of the previous application, which is a problem that I’ve had with nearly every other tinted lip balm I have tried * cough, MAC Tinted Lip Conditioners, cough-cough*....The color lasts very well for a tinted lip balm, leaving behind a noticeable bit of stain to my lips even after eating/drinking/smoking!

Let me put it this way: I loved the one that I received as part of that swap so much that I immediately went about trying to obtain the additional colors! I figured I’d be able to get them either from my local Sephora or fromwww.sephora.com, but it turned out that the only place I could find them online waswww.nordstroms.com andwww.QVC.com. I ordered mine from the latter, which actually turned out to be a blessing as QVC is selling them as a two-piece kit for $28 (Solar/Sun and Beam/Shine are the combos available) although they sell for $16 a piece separately.

At the moment, in addition to Shine, I’m the proud owner of Solar, a pink-red that is wearable enough for every day without screaming siren-red! And although “Sun” looks like a scary orange/brown in the tube on my barely pigmented lips, it actually turns out to be a perfect nude shade. All of the shades are buildable so you can swipe on a thicker layer for a darker, more dense – but still shiny – result.

My research at the moment has led me to conclude that these lip treatments are either limited edition or else very hard to find – they weren’t even listed in the little Smashbox catalog that accompanied my QVC order, which allegedly contained a complete list of Smashbox products available fromwww.smashbox.com.

In any case, I love these little tinted lip balms so much that I’ve ordered a 2nd set of both color duos from QVC as I’m terrified that I might not be able to get my greedy little paws on them in the future! I’m thinking of writing to Smashbox – I need to tell them to do something about their current packaging for the BrowTech Duo because you run out of wax before you even make a dent in the brow powder! – and begging them to A) make this product more widely available and B) introduce additional colors (I’d love to see a peachy pink someday!!).

If you are an afficionado of tinted lip balms, or if you find that your current lipstick isn’t moisturizing enough, you seriously owe to yourself to try these out. They put the MAC Tinted Lip Conditioners to shame! If I could remember the name of the swap-member that I received this from, I would send her a dozen roses with my eternal gratitude!!

Sincerely,
CareKate (your ever-faithful Lip Product Maven)

ETA: For the record, I apply some of my beloved Skinceuticals Antioxidant Lip Repair and wait a couple of minutes for it to absorb then I apply whichever Smashbox Tinted Lip Treatment shade will compliment today’s outfit....

These look great!!! Thanks so much for the heads up. I'm always looking for a product with a bit of color and a bit of conditioning and these look like a great combo.

I noticed that 5 shades are also available via Smashbox's website, and it shows a color smudge that makes it a little easier to see the shade when you mouse over the color name. Here's a link: http://www.smashbox.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.detail/categoryID/28182fba-24af-408c-94d1-7566b5c71728/productID/3cd4b038-0557-4905-8dac-1b7048b57129/

I think I'll go for the Solor/Sun combo on the QVC site. Great price! Thanks again for the tip CareKate! Very Happy

ooooo...I'm so torn...on one hand I really want to try this one out also...but then I'm trying to stay away from stuff containing parabens...soooo tempting though!

Currently I own Lipfusion, Gatineau electelle, Lip-pulse, Decleor aromaessence lip balm, JI pure gloss, Lamas lip enhancer, Lanolin, and various "natural" lip-balms...my recent study on parabens have made me decide to stick with JI pure gloss, Decleor and Lanolin though...unless it's really a miracle product (like the Alphaderma ones, that unfortionately contain parabens), I've decided to make parabens a thing to stay away from and also a kind of limit on myself spending too much money tring new products...it's kind of good sometimes to put in those restriction red lights to stop yourself from ordering all those interesting products out there...he he Very Happy

So Carecate- is this one worth it? Which of the above named lip-treatments would you choose if you had to choose one?

Yeah, I own all of those product myself – and then some!! Personally, the Smashbox tinted lip treatments are the best tinted lip balms that I’ve ever tried, period. Until I found these little beauties from Smashbox, the Lamas LE was my fave tinted lip balm, if that tells you anything! I guess once you finish off your current tube of Lamas LE, then you can pick yourself up a tube of the Smashbox.

BTW, here’s how I incorporate all of my items into my daily regimen:

When I get out of the shower after using my homemade lip scrub to exfoliate my lips, I immediately smooth on a couple of drops of my Skinceuticals Antioxidant Lip Repair and let it ‘penetrate’ for about 5-10 minutes while I do the rest of my skincare routine and/or get dressed. Next, I apply a thin layer of Lip Pulse and let it sit for a couple of minutes, then when I’m just about ready to walk out the door, I slather on a layer of LipFusion which I leave on during the 45 minute drive to work. When I get to work, I wipe off the LipFusion to give me a “clean slate” and then apply all of my makeup, using whichever Smashbox tinted Lip Treatment that best matches my outfit and just touch it up as necessary throughout the day.

BTW, I received my 2nd order of the Smashbox tinted lip treatment sets from QVC (I ordered “backups” just in case this product becomes discontinued) and this time I was able to try the shade called “Beam.” It’s a nude mauvey-pinky-brown that I’d describe as a Y-L-B-B color, very similar to the shade of the Lamas LE.

While the Smashbox “Sun” color is an orange-brown color in the tube that translates to the perfect “warm” nude shade on the lips, I’d say that Beam is the perfect “cool” nude shade. I think that Sun and Beam are going to be the colors that I’ll be reaching for most often, but I’m still glad that I own all four shades.

Since I got my “backup” sets from QVC, I now own 2 tubes of Solar, 2 tubes of Sun and 2 tubes of Shine. I think on payday (11/1), I’ll be ordering yet another set of Beam/Shine from QVC so I can get a backup tube of Beam to put aside for a rainy day. So if anyone is interested in buying the extra tube of “Shine” from me, just send me a PM and we can work out the details....

Thanks for all the info Carecate! I ended up ordering "Beam" from Nordstroms and figured that if I like it, I'll order up the sun/solar combo from QVC. I just wish it didn't contain parabens...why do they have to put that junk into everything Sad

Oh well...looking forward to adding this into my lip collection. I still love to use the VL lipstain and putting PureLan (Lanolin) over it...sooo long-lasting and mosturising.
