Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. I've gotten a lot of great tips from the forums and I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions. Now onto the question...

In general my skin is okay and people tend to think I'm a bit younger than 29. But I have really thick skin and large pores, especially on my forehead. If you look closely I have a lot of baby fine lines and loose skin in this area, and if I pull it taut it looks more normal though the pores are still prevalent. I have tried extremely harsh treatments like slathering AHA 20% (Neostrata) over my face, and various brands of home microdermabrasion that I rub into my face harshly for 15 minutes until it hurts. Also a combination of both. Unfortunately none of these things have any effect and my skin doesn't show any signs of irritation or change. Maybe the lack of irritation is a good thing, but I'd like to find some products that actually do something without spending money at a clinic! I highly doubt my docs would prescribe me Retin-A or derivatives because my skin is pretty fair and clear other than the big pores and thickness. Then again, maybe this is irreversible.

If you guys have any suggestions, I would appreciate it... thanks!

Welcome vpmiyu! I don't really have a lot of advice for you except for the derm part. I went to my derm for my annual mole patrol and while I was there I brought up my large pores and asked what he recommended. He gave me several samples of retin-A and told me to call back if I liked it and he'd get me a script. He said that was the best thing for shrinking pores and eliminating wrinkles.

I too have very clear skin with the exception of a few large pores mostly on my cheeks. I tried retin-A for a total of 8 weeks. They say the first 2-3 weeks your skin will peel a lot and then adapt to it. Well, after 8 weeks of constant peeling I called it quits. The large pores were better than the dead skin constantly falling off my face. I looked really scaley all of the time. However, I think I will eventually call back and get the script and try it every third night or so and see how that goes.

Okay I'll quit rambling now. My point is that I do suggest going to a derm since retin-A is recommended for other reasons than acneic skin. Good luck! Very Happy

Hello,
If you can't get retine-A from your derm, you can try Skinceutical's Retinol 0.5 or 1.0. Retinol is suppose to be gentler than retine-A. I have pretty strong skin and with 0.5 I am not suffering from much peeling at all. After I finished 0.5 I will move on to 1.0. The only bad thing about this product is its price Mad
