I found EDS and Vit C serum some 2 years ago, and never looked back. I am one of those who benefitted from the Vit C regime. My skin is definitely clearer, more radiant ...I think I have said all this before....(please bear with me)
Some 4 weeks back, I ordered Skinceuticals Retinol 0.5 and added that to my nightly routine.
After some initial "crepiness" and peeling, I tell you, I have never seen my skin soooo smooth and even-toned ever since I hit the big 30. The improvements kicked in during the 2nd week. BTW, I am in my forties already.
The reason why I say it is the next quantum leap is that I am no skin purist and while I have stuck throughout with my Vit C, I experimented with many other skin care stuff posted here. BUT, I daresay, Retinol 0.5 from Skinceuticals will be my next main stay. It definitely made a dramatic difference that is SUSTAINABLE.
I think some of you may be able to identify with "non sustainability" - some skin care may improve your skin for a couple of days, but some how, the improvement is not sustainable. Your skin kinda of get used to it and it slips back into the original condition.
Sorry, if I sound like boasting, but I just wanted to share this. It is really amazingly smooth, very drastic. BTW, I am also seeing some improvement at my eye area which has some milia. I am crossing my fingers that the milias will reduce further...
Now, I have to run from my work desk to the restroom again, to admire my skin I have been doing this all morning, even to the point of being a road hazard, cos I kept looking at the vanity mirror in my car...while driving
Cheers,
Jenny |

I use the 1% under my eyes and along what would otherwise be nasolabial folds. You have to be careful with this stuff. It is VERY strong, but it also is incredibly effective. I've incorporated it into my IS Clinical regimen and I couldn't be happier with the results.... |

Hi Bighead
1) I don't think it is a problem for younger skin, but more likely, if it is suitable for your skin type. Some people do use Retinol to treat acne scars.
Katee
Thanks for the warning. I have used other brand's retinol but have not seen much effect. So you are right - it is strong stuff. I am still peeling a little at the nasal labial folds but am not complaining, cos the skin underneath is very smooth. I however, would really agree with you that one should go slow and cautious with it cos it may not be suitable for your skin.
Lily
I do use it under my eye but you have to be careful not to get in the corners on your eyes. The area now is definitely less crepy.I cannot imagine the pain if....However, I do put in more days in between application at the start cos the eye area tend to be more sensitive. I also use Cellscosmet Eye contour over it to hydrate it.
Cheers

I just ordered the 1.0 lotion. I have used retin-a for years. I like the results, but the gel is just not fun to use and i thought I would give this a shot. I'll let you know how it goes. |

I would love to hear what you think of the retinol product since you have already used retinA |

I know that the prevailing line is that retinol is perfectly useable for those with sensitive skin, when retin A is not, I honestly don't see someone with sensitive skin using this stuff - ESPECIALLY not the 1%... |

I ordered the Skinceuticals 1% from EDS weeks ago but it has been back ordered. I can't wait to try it, my skin is not sensitive but I'll be careful around the eyes. |

If it is still backordered, try skin-etc.com. they have it in stock and it is much cheaper. (you have to put it in the basket to see the discount, but I believe it is $10 less) |

Hi Sweety Smarty
I am not sure how sensitive your skin is. As a benchmark, when I started using Vit C, I had to start with the lowest concentration Cellex C offered - at 7.5% cos otherwise my skin got irritated. But, I am now using 20% Vit C with no problems.
You may want to request for a sample from EDS before committing a full purchase. Also, the instructions does specify that you should start with only 2x a week, and work up to daily. Alternatively, you may use the sample on spots you may want to specifically treat first. For example, I now concentrate on the fine lines around both forehead sides - the skin seems thicker anyway.

Please tell me this is different than using retin A micro. I would love to find an A product I could use but I could not use that one. |

Hey Jenny
Thanks for the review!
I am still young (19), and seem to have sensitive skin but I have been able to tolerate SC C 20 and CE Ferrulic straight on.
I also have this strange sort of 'shiny' skin build up around all the temple, t zone, cheek areas, sort of like 'scar' skin, but only noticeable in a certain lighting. I seem to get it worse if I use any sort of spot treatment (like tea tree oil), the skin seems to get drier and shinier.
I am wondering if retinol would be good for renewing skin, back to the condition it was before (which are sort of around my mouth, by my ears)??
I am just afraid that it may cause even more build up of that crepe like skin!
Any advice? |

Hi Miranets
It doesn't sound like you should use retinol cos "scar"skin is suppose to be smooth and shiny anyway and if you are 19, it is unlikely you have wrinkles or folds to get rid of.
It sounds to me that you have smooth but dry skin - it is very tight and "crepe" up when you smile. I would suggest you try hydrating your dry skin.
Skinceuticals B5 is good. I also like Sothy's Hydroptimale Hydrating Mask - this should be soothing and plumps up your skin more. Furthermore, I wouldn't like trying something too strong at your age - reserve them for later, like when you reach my age If you would like to renew your skin a little, a gentle exfoliator may do the trick - Dermalogical's Microfoliant, Dr H's Cleansing Cream. If you like moderate chemical exfoliator that is at the same time hyrating, MD's facial cream is good and so is Skinceuticals' Renewing Cream for Dry Skin.
Just my 2 cents. May be others may want to respond too??
Cheers

Thanks Jenny for the advice
I never thought of that skin as dried out.. but always thought it was some sort of extra skin on top that I could scrub away at!
The skin does crease more than usual compared to say, around my eyes or mouth where it looks much softer.
I am beginning to add Dr CC to my regime, and go less on strong cleansing gels. It just seems that if I use creams that are too hydrating, that dry skin esp near my temples, gets a bit congested. |

Hi Miranets
I didn't think your skin was dried out, but perhaps dehydrated. That's why I thought you may want to try hydrating products rather than moisturizing products.

I use retinyl palmitate, a derivative of vitamin A-(retinol), because I have very fair, sensitive skin. It is much less irriating and quite effective as well.
For those especially difficult spots for us forty and over who have begun to battle all those unpleasant signs of aging, I treat those particular areas with Afirm 3X retinol. (It is very strong and the skin does get red and peel after a week or so but by doing so it also peels away those ugly brown age spots.)
A very effective combination is using a gylcolic acid (betwwen a 8% and 15% concentration), prior to apply the retinol.
Use a very hydrating, moisturing product at nighttime so your skin doesn't dry out too much!

Hi MelissaMarie
I use Vit C in the morning (every morning) and Retinol 0.5 at night. At the moment, I still do not use Retinol every night because it is pretty strong. I may use it twice in a row, then rest for one night. I guess you have got to play by ear and listen to your skin...
Cheers

Thanks Jenny,
I get the tread lightly with VitA, I have used it before I just never did the A and the C at same time but it does make sense. And I didnt want to fry my face. I used the A last night and this morning no redness, so far so good.

I have been using this for a little over a week. I really like the texture of it. I have used retin-a micro for years, it works well but isn't much fun to use. I really like the skinceuticals cream, it makes my face feel really nice right after I use it unlike the retin-a that made my face feel dry. |
