As many would know from my posts earlier this year, I am on the quest for the perfect face spray but have not quite made it to face-mist-utopia yet. The most recent stop along the road has been the Jurlique Pure Rose Water Spray.
I had never tried Jurlique but bought a cleanser for in-flight use in July and then a gift with purchase promotion in Australia while I was there prompted me to try a few more products. So here is a LONG review and a re-review of the ones I tried before Jurlique.
Here is how Jurlique rated:
Price:
I would give it 3 out of 5 due to the fact that 100ml (3.4oz) costs around CA$39 (using EDS pricing as the guide).
Ingredients:
Aqua, Rose Extract, Marshmallow extract, alcohol, rose flower oil, glyceryl cocoate, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, hydroxymethylglycinate, lactic acid, grapefruit seed extract.
Portability:
Definately not for the handbag. Comes in the Jurlique heavy white glass packaging. Very attractive and perfect for home or office desk but unless you are looking for some added weight to your tote bag...
Spray:
pump style and not a particularly fine one. After a couple of pumps my face felt like I had sweat beads about to run. I really do not know how this could be used for setting make up (as it recommends on the bottle). It seems to be mroe something to use around the home on weekends when you have no make-up on than in the office.
"feeling" on the face:
Even on the hottest summer day a spray of this feel SO cool and refreshing. The rose fragrance was wonderful (everyone in the office enjoyed that part). In general I would say it does not leave a "sticky" feeling on the face, but there are some "buts".. because the pump puts our such large droplets you can end up with a lot of product on face and that makes for a bit of a sticky feel... also, I like to spray about 4 times throughout the work day and it is a bit "heavy" for that many uses. This product is PERFECT for use on long-haul flights though for the above reasons. I used it on a 9.5 hour flight and had excellent results.
Would I buy again:
Probably no, but if it was on a special offer or qualified for some super free gift then I might.
My past purchases have been for:
- Thalgo Reviving Marine Mist Pure Vitality (loved the continuous light mist rather than pump style and light but hydrating feeling on the face, but it was too perfumed and had a long list of "yukky" ingredients)
- La Mer "The Mist" (I got this in a kit. Overpriced, a bit sticky, pump style but a resonably fine spray, average in terms of smell and hydration, but all those no-no ingredients I now try to avoid.)
- Jane Iredale D2O Hydration Mist (LOVED the actual product, but hated the pump - mine constantly clogged. When it worked, it gave quite a fine spray, which was almost as good as the continuous mist type ones. However, seeing as no-one else seems to have suffered from this clogging problem I might consider trying it again. This had great ingredients with no yukky stuff, beautiful fragrance and hydration with no stickiness.. Pretty expensive though)
And so the quest continues. I want to find a spray as good as Jane Iredale but with the misting of the Thalgo one.
Last week I picked up a pocket sized "water" mist from Dr. Ci Labo (a Japanese brand). Same wonderful mister of Thalgo, but I could not find ingredients list so cannot confirm if I would buy again. Feels nice, smell is a bit strange though. Jury is still out.
I think I will try the Janson Beckett one next and then if that fails my fussiness test I will have give Jane Iredale another whirl. |

Was wondering if you are thinking of trying the DHC Micro Skin Water? It is affordable, and the few products I have tried from DHC I've liked. I am looking for something to set my mineral makeup.
Any suggestions? Anyone....

Just wondering if its possible to make up your own spritzer. Maybe rosewater, distilled water and some Bach Flower Remedies. |

I used to make my own spritzers but to get all the lovely oils and extracts it cost a fortune and then I had trouble using them up before they lost their properties and were just good for fragrancing.
Must go look at DHC, doh, seeing as I live in Japan. My problem is that I dont like mists with added perfume (unelss from essential oil or extract) nor with a humungous list of additive chemicals and preservatives. I am just too fussy. |

I also found that when i added essential oils to my own mists and toners, that they would bead at the top and so wouldn't really make it through the spray... especially in a very fine spray-head like Dr H toner bottles. |

I use this to set my mineral makeup and have no problems with it. It's not as fine a spray as I would have liked (like say the Thalgo, which I love, or the Dr H toner spray pump) but I spray this quite far away from my face and by the time it lands on it it's all good |

OK, next one to try is the DHC Micro Skin Water...
For the price I cannot help but try it once at least ... $12 in the USA and regular Japan retail is 1,260 yen (about $11.30 app) BUT they have a promotion on their website all this month and it is only 735 yen (about US$6.60) AND if you are a first time buyer they give you another 300 yen (about $2.70) discount.
My only concern is that the second ingredient listed is butylene glycol.
Ingredients: water, butylene glycol, serine, thymus serpillum extract, houttuynia cordata extract, camellia oleifera seed extract, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, etidronic acid, quaternium-73, nitrogen
Oh, and they say to spray 4–6 inches away from face and if using to set makeup, gently blot with a tissue after applying. |

FINALLY found the product box for this, so here are the ingredients :
Aqua, Rose Extract, Marshmallow extract, alcohol, rose flower oil, glyceryl cocoate, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, hydroxymethylglycinate, lactic acid, grapefruit seed extract.
(I'll edit the original post to also put them there)
As a follow-up, after just under 4 months daily use (several times a day) the bottle is now done with. I have just purchased some of Shu Uemura's Depsea Water (Mint for me and Rosemary for hubby). I have a bit of a crush on Shu Uemura products at the moment so will see how this goes. I like the fact it has no added oils in it, just the high-mineral deep sea water. |

Whilst I enjoyed the rosewater spray I did not repurchase, mostly because it left a bit of a film on my face and from my daily spritzer I dont want to add weight. I do have a little travel one still to finish off that I will use on the plane.
I am still using Depsea water as my spritzer during the day at work. The mist is not the best, but the fact it is just a mineral-rich water is good for me. I also use it at home to spritz my face before applying masks or as a moist base into which I massage my cleansing gels or Cellcosmet activator gel.
I am also in love with the Caudalie Beauty Elixir which is a divine mister but again, I would not use as my stand-alone mister because of build up from the yummy oils in it (I should clarify that I mist my face about 4-8 times a day at work.. this is why I can't use something with too much essential oils etc in it). That being said, in the height of summer when I cannot stand to put anything on my face, the Caudalie might get a LOT of use as my stand-alone day time treatment!! |

Ahhhh! It's always intrigued me that you find that this leaves a film on your face. I use this and love it and have never found that it leaves anything on the skin but I don't use it as often as you do... Now I understand |

Mabsy, my co-workers think my desk is the best smelling place in the office.. between my misting, my handcream, my Origins Peace of Mind (minty smell) and the occasional raspberry antibacterial gel it really is quite the garden... |

I was trolling sephora.com and saw that Korres makes a couple face mists. Made me think of reading this post earlier, and thinking perhaps I should try something like this, as my face is pretty dry. I was going to try the new DHC co-q10 mist, but these Korres mists look much nicer. |

Korres is such a lovely looking line.. their orange water mist sounds nice (as does their yoghurt cooling gel!) I have a couple things on my "wish list" for the sephora family and friends discount at the end of the year! |

Dr. Ci Labo is a very popular Japanese brand. and most of Japanese product don't have ingredients.
So I seldom use Japanese brand skincare. |

I have pretty sensitive skin, this one works well when my face is red , it is ideal for summer, right after direct contact with the sun, helps to cool down the burning sensation on the skin. |

I use this product as a toner when travelling. It works by eliminating dryness and it's convenient to take! |
