I want to ask that for those of you who uses makeup primer/ base on a regular basis, how does it affect your skin? Does it clog your pores? I found that by using a makeup primer prior to foundation, my foundation lasts longer. I'm just afraid that it might clog my pores and cause breakouts, so if anyone can share their experience or knowledge, that would be great, thanks! |

Hiya, I've used Smashbox Photo Finish primer over several months now and definitely have not noticed it contributing to any clogging of pores. In fact... I wonder if it might even help out in that department by forming a bit of a sealing layer to keep your foundation's pigment particles from falling straight into your pores?
The other one I use is Nars... but it is more a moisturiser consistency...white and milky rather than clear/silicon textured... I dont think Nars primer forms that same sort of "cushion".
So.... I think it is worth a go personally! |

I've used several of the primers and they have never clogged my skin, but I mostly only use them during the colder months. Pure Luxe Eraser (pureluxecosmetics.com)is my favorite. Everyone raves about the Laura Mercier one, and I am usually a fan of all her products, but I don't like it and I couldn't tell any difference in wearing it. It sounds a lot like the Nars that Muzzie mentioned.
I've heard the Sephora brand Skin smoothing makeup base is good as well, but I haven't tried it.

I also use smashbox photofinish primer. Never had a problem with it, but some people do if they have problems with silicones. |

I'm using Lise Watier makeup base and it claims to reduce pores size as well as provided a matte finish. I noticed that my pores size is the same but it does give a matte finish, therefore controlling the shine during the day. My powder foundation seems to stay put for half of the day then the shine appears. And when I tried to apply some foundation again, it got all flaky and all that Also when I remove my foundation at night, there appears to be some white flakes coming off...I wonder if those are the makeup base? So did anyone use any makeup base that can help their foundation to stay put the whole day? Thanks |

I like Chanel Illuminating Base - it minimises pores, gives a sheer and not-too-sparking sheen, reduces the need to blot and helps foudation stay put. It's even better when mixed with Shu Uemura's Mauve Control Colour Base.
Christian Dior's Pink-tone Control Colour Base is also very good, if you want a more runway-luminous look that what the Chanel gives.
Hope this helps,

Thanks everyone but does anyone try any color corrective makeup base before? I heard that a green makeup base will neutralize redness. A purple one will brighten dull complexion. So which brand is good for color corrective makeup base? Thanks |

I used purple to correct my yellow undertone, to make my face brighter. I remember my grandmother used green on her face to correct some redness on her cheeks. I stop using it because now I rarely wear make-up. Make-up Forever has good colour corrective base. |

Color correcting makeup bases are used extensively in the studio industry and work very well. Hypoallergenic formulations will not clog your pores or cause you to breakout. Purchase one that is specially formulated for your skin type, ie for dry, normal or oily skin. The colors generally correct the following:
White: Lightens Darker Foundations, Use to Enhance Features and Highlight Cheekbones, Use as a Spot Treatment for Blemishes.
Yellow: Hides Undereye Circles, Dark Spots and Purple Blotches, Adds Warmer Tones when Mixed with Cool Toned Foundations. Balances out Orange/Red tones in Light Complexions.
Mint (Green): Covers Redness, Acne and Rosacea. Also used after laser and chemical peels to cover Redness.
Lavender: Hides Bruises and is used to Cover the after effects of Plastic Surgery. Also, Neutralizes Yellow Tones and Gives Sallow Complexions a Healthy Glow.
Mauve: Used to Even out Blue and Black Tones found in Bruises, Veins and Under Eye Circles.
Peach: Hides Blue Undereye Circles. Also used to Liven up Overall Skin Tone and Add a Healthy Glow. Balances out Slight Discolorations.

Thank you everyone! I'm quite touched that somebody actually replied to my post with such details. ^^ But I'm a bit confused with the colors cuz it seems that yellow, mauve, and peach tones can cover blueish dark discoloration. Also both yellow and green can cover redness? So which is best then? I want to neutralize the redness on my face due to mild rosacea but it's more like pinkish than bright red, so should I use a green color or a yellow color? Also are most color corrective makeup bases mattifying, do they make your foundation stay put longer? Sorry for all the questions but I'm desperate in search for a good base Anyone heard of Red Earth makeup base before? Thanks! |

From your description I think you can use green to correct the pink. You should just go to a counter and try colours out if you like. |

Here is the quote from the book "How to Apply Makeup" by Victoria Sharp:
"Only very young people or those with perfect complexion don’t need to apply foundation primer. Still, most women do, at least on some parts of their faces (nose, forehead and chin). If you are applying primer onto your whole face, then you should do your throat too, to equalize skin color."
You can download the book and find out more about foundation primer and other makeup tips for only $6.96 as well as the book "Be Your Own Hairstylist" at http;//www.timelessfemme.com |

Anyone try the Smashbox color corrective primer? It claims it's the same as the traditional Smashbox photo finish primer but with the color correcting component. Is it true that silicone is harmful to the skin? |
