This weekend I decided to go back to the basics. I used to wash my face with bar soap and use a body lotion on my face and I had the best skin....used to get compliments all the time..!! Then I started using everything under the sun on my face and even my mom said "what on earth is wrong with your skin"! I have white heads all ove my cheeks (about 12 bumps total) so I decided to go back to what worked even if it goes against everything I have read!! I use bar soap to wash and lubriderm on my dry spots (even eyes) and that is it!! I also used to only wash my face in the morning after having slept in my makeup!!! I havent resorted to that yet but I might...I used moisture whip foundation too...it was the really heavy stuff. Yikes!
I bought aveeno complexion soap for dry skin and it works so so at taking off my makeup but it dosent strip my skin. It does not lather very well (for a bar soap)...it has oatmeal in it so it is supposed to exfoliate as well as clean. I havent noticed much exfoliation and it leaves some of my mascara behind (I wear a lot) but overall I am happy with it.
I also bought Age Rewind foundation from Revlon. It is very sheer and keeps my skin fairly hydrated. I still need a concealer in some areas for acne scars but overall it is ok. Not one I would tell you to run out and purchase. |

I have been using a cleanser by Acacia Lane. It is a lotion type cleanser, really lovely. It does not dry out your skin at all. I also use their toner. You can get it direct fromwww.acacialane.com.au |

My favorite, new cleanser (as previously mentioned) is Malin and Goetz's Face Cleanser. It's uber-refreshing, does not strip or dehydrate the skin, and removes every last bit of make-up & grime from my face. I use a separate eye make-up remover (cheap: Nivia Visage E.M.R.). I swear, with my hand on the almighty Beauty Bible, that I am absolutely in-love with the cleanser from Malin and Goetz! I may have to buy some for some of my friends too.
Re: your foundation. It sounds like the Revlon Age-Rewind may be too rich for your skin. Though you said that it's lightweight and sheer, it is for a maturing skin, and may contain something which causes acne. I hope that you still have your receipt, because any reputable drugstore ought to accept it's return, or at least an exchage. If not, contact Revlon. I've always thought that their New Complexion liquid foundation was their best. It's been around for nearly 20 years, and there is a reason that they still manufacture it: because it's good! Silky!
Otherwise, as I sense that you're seeking an economical foundation, here are some others to consider: Covergirl TruBlend Liquid foundation, CoverGirl Outlast Foundation, or L'Oreal True Complexion Foundation.

Caspers Mum...thank you so much for the post! I will look into Malin and Goetz's Face cleanser. I have tried a million foundations and (drugstore and department store) and have yet to find one I like. I have bought about 6 in the last month and the only ones I have been at all happy with are revlons long wearing one and covergirl's outlast.
Thanks again for the recommendations. |
