Ok, you guys really helped me with my moisturizer, and I can tell you that I have found my moisturizer, now I need a face wash! Little did I realize that alot of the problems my moisturizer was causing was really from my face wash
Heres the symptoms: Dove soap (the plain white one AND the sensitive skin one) cleans my face excellent but leaves me all red on the nose and cheeks but more importantly DRY. I have also tried the cetaphil sensitive skin bar and aveeno's bar and also the Basis gentle bar (all of which are opaque if that matters?) So anyway I said to hell with bar soaps they are just too irritating (the redness and the dryness)
So now I am on to liquid products that you can foam in your hands or on a wash cloth....
I know what everyone is thinking, and that is "try the cetaphil gentle cleanser" well sorry but that makes me break out. I will admit it doesn't leave my face dry or red/irritated BUT it also doesn't clean, it's like a moisturizer claiming to be a facial cleanser.
So now i've been trying the "Clean and Clear" soaps. First I tried the antibacterial one, which works great and doesn't dry out my skin BUT IT LEAVES INCREDIBLE REDNESS after only 2 days use. So now i've bought the SENSITIVE SKIN CLEAN AND CLEAR which I guess I can say doesn't leave me dry (so far) but it does leave redness which seems to fade away within a few hours if I apply moisturizer, but it does clean as well.
I am in a catch-22 with washing my face! TOO sensitive face soaps leave a residue = makes me break out. TOO harsh face soaps = redness/dryness
My perfect soap = ??????????
I would say i'm on a budget, but I would guess that in 2005 alone i've bought over 100 dollars worth of face related crap that I don't even use.....
Help me out! |

The Dove soap dried my skin out when I used it on my body so I can't imagine what effect it had on your face.
You seem to like sticking to soap bars so what about trying the Dermalogica bar soap:

and if you are on a budget then I cannot recomend enough all the recipes in the below thread, especially the homemade Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream and the Apple Cider Vinegar Toner:

Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you and let us all knows on the boards how you get on. |

Rosebud,
Sorry this is a little off topic, but what do you use to cleanse your body? I have noticed the Dove dries my back and legs out so bad it makes them itch, but I use the Sensitive skin bar and like that it has no fragrance to cause me problems.
John,
I highly recommend Dermalogica's Ultracalming Cleanser. It is similar in consistency to Cetaphil, BUT... it rinses and doesn't leave a residue like Cetaphil which broke me out too. If you're looking to go the drugstore route then you should try Aveeno's Sensitive Skin Foaming Cleanser. It is in a pinkish colored pump bottle. I used it and found it was really gentle. HTH! |

alilicious it is always trial and error what works for me, I do prefer to use soaps for washing my body with and at the moment I love Molton Brown soaps, they lather up so well and seem to moisturise my skin as they cleanse.
Neal's Yard Calendula soap is also very good and suitable for sensitive body skin. |
