Has anyone heard of "hot tub spots"? When I woke up with small red bumps all over my body, legs, face arms, back etc, I went to the derm and he said they are hot tub spots? I shower after I use my hot tub and have not used my tub for a few days now, yet I continue to breakout in new spots as each hour passes.(no lie, everytime I look in the mirror I find more new red spots) It is the strangest thing I have ever seen. He told me to take Benedryl, but that does not seem to help. Any thoughts or suggestions? Sad

I had this on my legs and arms and my doctor said it was pseudofolliculitus, an inflammation of the hair follicles caused by bacteria. He said it's possible to get it from hot tubs. He recommended a hydrocortizone cream (I think). I remember getting as good or better relief by mixing emu oil (anti-inflammatory) with some tea tree oil (antibacterial and antifungal)and rubbing this mixture on the affected areas. After a few days the spots disappeared.

Thanks for the post, question though- when I get in the shower after the hot tub and wash with an anti-bacterial soap AND I have not been in the hot tub for several days now and they are still popping out everywhere (even as we speak)...why is that? My hot tub is clean and drained every two weeks....I guess that sounds logical, but EEEK Shock

I've read this is more common in hot tubs with poor ventilation.

poor ventilation? My hot tub is outside, if this is what these hideous bumps are from, it has to be bacterial? Although I do not know how to avoid when my chemicals are correct and water is clean and I shower when I get out.
Thanks for all the help

Maybe you have developed an allergy to the chemicals you use? Or something in your soap?

I would think that too...only I have had my hot tub for 8 months and not had this? And I have not tried any new soap or lotion etc. I am going to try the EMU Oil and see what happens. It is just strange that they keep breaking out, and I have showered several times now, since I have been in the tub??

People develop allergies spontaneously to products they have already been using. We only develop allergies to things we're exposed to.

The other option is hives? I would search the internet for rashes and look for photos, and/or get a second medical opinion. Good luck. I hate getting rashes!
