I am looking for an inexpensive glycolic acid cream that I can use for a 5 minute mask every night after I wash my face. I'd like a cream because of the consistancy and potency. Washes, especially if left on the skin for more than 30 seconds, really dry out the surface of my skin.
Or... anyone have any suggestions?
Thx. |

Hi Amnis,
I know it's not a cream but I remember reading a glycolic acid recipe in the DIY section. You use white or brown sugar, honey and your fav. oil. This is supposed to be an effective glycolic acid mask. Try a search. I'm pretty sure it was CareKates recipe. The honey should make it very moisturizing.

While Cloe is right on regarding the use of white (granulated) or brown sugar for a cheap, quick, homemade form of glycolic acid, you can also buy pure GA from the Personal Formulator. Here’s what they have to say about it:
AHA02 -Glycolic Acid:
Description: Glycolic Acid is the most popular alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). In low concentrations (less than 3%) AHAs work as water-binding agents. At concentrations over 4% and in a base with an acid pH of 3 to 4, these can exfoliate skin cells by breaking down the substance in skin that holds skin cells together. Along with lactic acid, it is the effective and well-researched.
It's quite cheap at $9.50 for 1-oz (keep in mind that you only need a couple of drops per useage!). |

Glycolic acid comes from sugar cane, which is whay sugar is supposed to hep exfoliate the skin. I found a glycolic cream from Puritan's Pride vitamin catalog that is very cheap, you could do a web search and find it, it also works wonders on the body and feet. |
