Neocutis was founded in February 2003 as a spin-off from the Medical School of the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland. It is a privately held specialty bio-pharmaceutical company focused on wound healing, dermatology and skin care. Neocutis' story began with a simple observation: prenatal surgery can be done so that the baby rarely presents scar formation after birth. What allows the enormous wound healing capacity of fetal skin? And, how can one use these capacities to cure different types of skin disorders? Skin, one of our largest and most visible organs, establishes, controls and transmits contacts with the external world . Beyond the classical image of the skin as a barrier organ and providing physical resistance to mechanical stress, it operates as a huge and highly active biofactory in the synthesis, processing and metabolism of skin constituents including structural proteins, polysaccharides, lipids and a diversity of signaling molecules.
