Hi Kims - I used CPs and emu oil after both my glycolic and TCA peels. If you do anything more than a 12.5% TCA the recommendation is to use antibiotic cream.
Also, a thin layer of vaseline or aquaphor right at the rim of your eyelashes will help stop the acid from getting into your eyes.
As for the strength, a 20% TCA is stronger than a 20% glycolic. But a 50-70% glycolic is pretty darn strong.
For TCA, I was nervous with the first one too. But start with a patch test 24-48 hours before so you can see how your skin will react. For first full peel, only do one layer. For subsequent peels you can do multiple layers - the recommendation is to layer until you "frost" (which is a whitish cast to the skin, and yep, it looks a little freaky). I always frosted with 1-2 layers. I do think prepping with retin-a helps you frost with fewer layers as it exfoliates the top layer and presumably the acids can penetrate better.
Oh yes, and be aware - the neutralizing step with baking soda and water can really sting! I've had luck with rinsing with plain water first and then the baking soda mixture - this seems to dull the sting.
Do let us know how it works out. |
